scott you would like it, plus the hunter class guy shoots with the precision guys in the same group so you can see what that is all about. i ended up 4th out of 35 guys should have done better but had a couple minor mental errors. there were 67 targets winner shot 57 2nd and third tied at 54 i shot a 51. low score was a 14 and mid pack were in the mid to upper 30s. the hunter class winner went clean so that will tell you the hunter class is a great place to start.

That does sound like a good time. Good way to burn through some rounds too!

...I'd like to try that Hunter class w/ the .325 WSM, wouldn't be no doubts when you hit a plate...

I would be in for that kinda shooting Gene. For sure! I think it would be fun to run the 338 or 35 Whelen on a shoot like that. How many rounds do you shoot at once. Just would worry abit about overheating a barrel?

I thought about that too Scotty. You don't shoot as many rounds on the hunter class as the precision rifle so that helps. In either course I don't think you get them too hot. You would shoot from 3-5 rounds in the hunter class in a about 3 minutes time. Then you have to wait for the other 4 guys in your group to get their shooting in, and then you move 200 yards down range to the next station. They do get a chance to cool. I don't think it would be overly tough on them. I'm going to try it and see how it goes. If it gets too warm for my tastes, I won't do it again, or I won't shoot every target at each station. It won't get me in the winner's circle but I don't have the $$$ to buy new barrels so I'll take it easy on my stuff. Especially when the weather gets warmer.

That'll be great David. I really look forward to your results and input. What rifle are you going to use? I have been daydreaming as to what rifle would be good for something like that.

Just use what I have Scotty. I'm going to take my Ruger #1B with a 4x Leupold shooting 165 gr. Accubonds the first time out. I got those seconds you turned me on to for a great price so I don't mind shooting them at steel. I might try and load up some 165 gr. BT's to see if they will hopefully shoot as well and maybe even shoot to same point of impact. I know lucky dog if that works out for me. I figured it would be worth a try so I would not have to change sight-in, and I could shoot a cheaper bullet. Next time out it will be the mighty 6mm Remington!

They do give you a time constraint Scotty, but they give you enough time that a single shot bolt rifle can be used, and my #1 is pretty quick to load so I think I'll be okay. If I go over the time, that's okay too because it is just for fun and realistic practice!

That seems like a great rifle David. I would think it would be a blast with either of your rifles. I would almost bet the 165 or 168 BT's would work out pretty close to your AB load. It might take a touch of tweaking, but I doubt it would be much either way. Or the CC bullets on sale are tailor made for steel banging. Take lots of pictures when you go. I am really looking forward to that.

Scott -
I think hunter class would be the perfect place to test that 7WSM of yours. Get those high BC bullets going in that thing and you will outperform the 30 cal and bigger stuff with a light recoiling rifle. By the end of the match, it could make a difference in how you squeeze the trigger on those targets.

you wont need anything fancy for the hunter class scott i think a 243 would be a good one for it and you can use any bullet you want the core of the shooting will be under 300 so bc will not be of any help anyway. the hunter class is a great way to get your feet wet i would bet that even a weatherby would be competitive in the hunter class

That is what I was thinking as well.

Jeff, good thing I don't even have a Weatherby to tempt me! Yeah, I think the 7WSM would be a good option, as would the 264 too I guess. Either of them have the ability to plant shots pretty easily from 0-400 without much of anything but pointing and shooting.

Whats the case capacity compared to a 260rem and 6.5Grendal? The lapua seems bigger than the 6x47 made from necking up the 222rem mag which my now older manuals show.

We should try one of the F-class shoots at Quantico. A.P. Hill is getting into F-class matches as well.
