Well, as some of you know, I have had some issues with 180 gr Barnes TTSX in my .300 Win Mag. After some peer pressure from Nosler06, I made the switch over to 200 gr Nosler PT's. Yesterday was range day with him. I took up 36 rounds of ammo. 4 rounds of each load from 66.5-70.5 grains. I didn't take pictures of each round, only the ones that counted.

I sized the bullets to my magazine length as recommended by some fine folks here.

Distance is 100 yards. I will be zeroing this rifle in to 200 yards.

67.5 grains H4831SC
Grouped nice, but a little low on the velocity scale.

69 grains H4831SC
I had 3 targets up. The far right shot is the 4th shot from the 68.5 grain string...apparently I wasn't paying attention

70.5 grains H4831SC
This, according to the manual was supposed to be the most accurate load. I know that includes a lot of circumstantial variables, however I saw some promise from the top 3 shots. I believe whole heartedly that my shoulder was just tired and the shots were just not there...

So I thought I would load up 10 more bullets. 5 of the 69 grain and 5 of the 70.5 grain. I went out again today, by myself.

Here is the 5 shot group of the 69 grain load of H4831SC

Happy that it could pretty much replicate yesterdays shooting, I was interested to see what the 70.5 grain load could do. I really wanted to see if it was the load, or a tired shoulder...

The 1 shot below I know I pulled it or whatever. You know those shots that as soon as you pull the trigger it just isn't good? That was one of them.

Yes I had quite a "I told you so" statements coming from Nosler06. But having said that, I am more than happy with the 200 Grain Nosler Partition.

I have yet to Chrony the 70.5 grain load, however according to the manual it should be somewhere near the 2910 fps range.

The drop charts according to JBM show that there is virtually no difference in drop until at least 500 yards between the Barnes 180 TTSX and the Nosler 200 PT out of the 300 win mag. I know for a fact I won't be taking any of those shots, yet.

Not too bad. I would give the 180's a try also

Fotis has given you some excellent advice. That is not at all a shabby load. Three quarters of an inch is assuredly acceptable.

The 70.5 gr load cold be interesting. Reshoot it and then also try seating the same load deeper in .05" increments. It should tighten up. The 200 gr AB at 2900 fps is a hammer load.

WOW! That is what I am talking about! 200PT's at 2800-2900 is going to SLAY anything in your area buddy! If it repeats again, I would write it down in the book and zero it! I would bet it will work just fine for you.

Way to go. I love when the 200's and 300 Magnums come together. Just magic. Welcome to Nosler! HA!

Osprey, that is some good shooting. The 200gr Partition is an excellent bullet and it will do you well.
My cousin shot the 300win mag for at least 20years and I know he was a big fan of the 180gr Nosler partitions as well.
Thank you for the range report and photos.

Blessings,
Dan
