Ah the Vangaurd just can't get no respect man.LOL. On a family budget, I still think I made a sweet deal. Load development is promising, I so far have rave reviews of the redfield optics. So for 1200$ Canukian I'm laughin. This load is still in the works but it has a 180 gr AB over rl-22, fed 215 primers. My first shot was the far right, my second shot is the far left. I kicked myself and settled down and put the next 3 rspectable. This was @ 250 yrds of the bench/bags. And I would been sub moa, if I buckled down from the get go!!.

I think puttin that on the rifle is just there to rub the owner a bit. It's like, hey we know the rifle can do it what the H e double hockeysticks is your problem.lol.

Well this shoulda been photo #2, all in the 3" diamond, I'm working on snugging it up though.

Not bad. So, where did you pick up the Redfield? Give us some particulars and a review in the Product Review section when you get a chance.

Nice shooting Super 7. I have had two Weatherby Vanguards and both were nice rifles that cannot be topped for the money. The Sub Moa's seem like a great bargain. Is this a 300WSM or 300WM? Either way, it looks like a good rifle right off the bat. Looking forward to see the load work for it. Scotty

I though that the A-Bolt Composite was the Rodney Dangerfield of rifles. My .280 A-Bolt gets no respect, despite 1/2 inch groups consistantly. Vanguards have had a long standing reputation for great accuracy.

I have nothing but respect for Vanguards, owning two of them (sorta). A .223 and a 7WSM an a Howa 1500. I would buy more, particularly more WSMs.

Nah...Vanguards aren't the Rodney Dangerfield of rifles- that would be a Savage.

Yes, the Savage garners less respect and generally from those who have never bought one and used them. But every time my friends at our shooting range see me shoot my 116FHSS 300Win mag and poke little holes, they can't comment (at least out loud) and they sure don't make any comparisons with their rifles of different makes, because they don't get the results I do.

Yeah I gotta agree w/ Bullet & Hodgeman; the Rodney Dangerfield of Rifle-dom is the Savage and it is a shame... kinda... given the law of supply and demand, I'd hate for a bunch of rifle snoots to "discover" them.

Supreme accuracy and value aside, they're also a hoot to play with on the bench. I'm working on a 338-06 AI/6.5-06 AI switch barrel rig right now and believe me... if I can do it ANYONE can! I have a hard time hooking up a gas dryer...

At any rate, that is a great find you've made. My Vangard in 257 Roy is a wonder as well:

I had a Savage once but I found somebody (finally) that would buy it!

I'm sure that if you just looked at it and never shot it for groups that you feel good about that transaction, and I'm glad you feel that way cuz its more for me  !!!

Getting back to the original subject, Howa seems to be doing everything to kill the 1500. You can't get a wood stock at all, and I think the only synthetic is the Hogue, which I loathe. Weatherby seems to be doing things right with their S2 or whatever they are calling it.

I guess I shoulda said it was a 300 win mag, I bought this one from a rifle store that was going out of buissness and had a blow out sale. First week was 25 % off everything in the store and I had eye balled a few and had three I liked. A model 70 ew in 06', a browning x-bolt in 7mm, and a sub moa in 257bee. I fondled all of them and really had a liking for the way the bee's stock fit. Went back the next week and all three had sold, I was a bit bummed a guy mentioned one more sub moa in the back did not know what cal. He brought it out this time at 40% off I did not hesitate.

Good call. I'd have been walking out with two of the original three... but I just don't like A- or X-Bolts.

Only true for "off the shelf" rifles; there are quite a few options available aftermarket. I'm planning on a Boyd's which is only about $100 and has the distinctive monte carlo style of the Weatherby, but they also offer the more classic styling that other people might prefer.

I definately agree with your assessment of the Hogue!

Have you seen the new floorplate? Big garish gold letters, "Howa". I'd have to seriously consider rattlecanning it.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate that "blingy" looking crap!

I think I read somewhere you could fix the Howa with a good dose of M70 on it. Heard they shoot better and just make you look smile? Don't know, could be a ol wives tale! Scotty

HA! Yeah Scott; that is like my line on the .270... I've heard that you can get one to shoot by rebarreling it to '06!
