The truth hurts

That is a great clip!
Pretty much sums it up as to who we are anymore.

I saw that a few days ago. Everyone on the team here watched it. I thought it was great. Not sure what the show is like, but I liked the opener.

I see the rant as a mixture of truths and half truths and too many open-ended ideas. When Oblabla was going around saying "hope and change" in 2008, people bought into it not knowing that the kind of change he had in mind couldn't possibly address the concerns of the day. I hear the same kinds of subtleties in this guy's rant.

...and I think I'll follow that comment with this: is is or at least was freedom that made America great, or more specifically economic liberty. Too often a rant like that inspires questions and as I said, I think there were a lot of open-ended thoughts expressed where the unspoken suggestion is more socialism, more "social justice," and more government intervention. The guy was naming off all the ills that afflict us now, and a very strong argument can be made that creeping socialism (you know, that phenomenon that we were told we were imagining during the 80s and 90s) and a swelling federal government with its bureaucracies have done little but cultivate and nurture them.

I know that the clip is fictional. I also know that screenwriters develop characters, and I suspect this character would love to have stood up and overtly blamed conservatism for all that ails us, while in fact it IS liberalism that has brought this country to its knees.

I, for one, believe that we can still get back on our feet...but I know it won't be an easy thing to do. I also know it will be impossible without inspired conservative leadership.
