I have a Savage 250 - 3000 ( 1940 ) Loaded four shells useing AccuBond 110 ( 25 Cal ) 4895 powder .28 gr.,29,Gr.,31 gr., 32 gr.
The first two hit the target sideways,,The last two missed the 4 foot x
4 foot target.. Used two factory loads( 100 gr ) Both dead center,,
Whats wrong ?? Got any good data for them there 110's
Thanks

Rain Dancer,

Sounds like the 110 gr AB is too long to be stabilized in your rifle.
You need to either drive the bullet faster with a different powder
or go to a shorter/lighter bullet.

What make and model is your 250-3000?
Do you know what twist you have?
Which 4895 powder are you using, Hodgdon H4895 or DuPont IMR4895?
You may also want to consider these powders: W760, RL15, and H414.

You might have to stay with the 100 gr bullet weights. The 100 gr BT at 250-3000 velocities would kill WT Deer like lighting. The Premium grade bullets like the AB and PT really are not necessary due to the lower velocities you are getting.

I have heard of some 250 savage that won't shoot over 90g bullets due to the twist,
tho factory winchester 100 grain work okay. I'd try some sierra 90 grain pro hunters
first then some other flat based bullet 100 grains or less. Maybe 100 grain Partition.

Those old 99's were either 1-14 or 1-16 twist. They were made to shoot the 87 gr. bullet.

That old Dear will have a 1-14" twist. It cannot stabilize those longerr Accubonds, and you will have no success with them unfortunately. The 250 Savage case just doesn't have the capacity to rev em up much either. In any case, you will need a 1-10" twist to do the job. Sorry to give you the bad news, but you can keep shooting those 100 and 87's in your rifle. It is truly a fine combination. Regards, Eagleye.

Rain dancer, I have heard that the old Savages often have a twist rate that is not conducive to the longer bullets such as the 110 Ab and 115 pt and 120 pt and so on. I would have a gunsmith check the twist rate for you and then i suppose go on what he tells you but you may have to go to a shorter, lighter bullet. Those savage 99s need to come back, they are a good old gun, i have an old EG model from 1940 as well in 300 though. Good old gun, in my fam for three generations.
