After reading about Sask Boy's ammo for elk & moose - I got curious about what others may have settled on for the season... Here's my choices:

.25-06, 115 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips over Retumbo at about 3150 fps. These are destined for Wyoming pronghorn and mule deer as well as more late-season deer hunting here in Washington:

Have already been afield with the 170 gr .30-30's, looking for bear:

Have also been afield with the 260 gr Accubonds, looking for bear. Only 2620 fps, but accurate and proven. I'd like to repeat on bear, and doggone it, still looking for a cooperative elk!

Yes, I dialed in a bit of right windage after shooting this group!

Of course there's always the old reliable .308, my most accurate rifle, as a backup to pretty much anything:

Your ammo & rifles this season?

Guy,

I like the looks of those 25-06 115 grg BT loads. They should serve you well in WY this fall.

I would have to agree Guy, I think that you pretty well have all your bases covered.
Good luck this fall my friend

Blessings,
Dan

All Partitions, all of the time in (6) rifle calibers, except for the 32 gr BT's in the .204 Ruger.

Guy,

Looks as though you have all the bases covered! Best of luck.

In the .257Bee I have the 100 gr. BTs for antelope, and the 110 ABs. for mule deer. In the big 7 mag. is the 140 AB for corn-field white-tails here @ home. No elk hunt this year, so the .338s get a rest.

All around big game load in the .280 rem. 160 NP over IMR 4350 with Rem 9 1/2 per max data Hodgedon site. This is my basic load, 50 will come off the press first and box up in case I get pressed on time this fall. I may try tweaking the primer or COL to try and tighten up the groups. Gives me accepatable deer accuracy but it could do better. Also working up a 140 gr BT if I get time. This primary load will be used on big bodied, heavily furred and fatted Northwoods whitetail and lotteries willing Timberwolves this year.

Wife's .308 win gets Rem Brass, Rem Primer and Speer 150 Mag Tip over IMR 4320. This load needs no tweaking. Dumps deer like a hammer and groups under .7 MOA at 100 yards. Not a great LR load but sub. Speer 150 SPBT and it shoots just as good.

My foul weather/brush gun, a mosin M44 sporter, will get the same .311 Hor 174 RN over IMR 4350 with Rem 9 1/2 primer that has served me extremely well for 4 years now. Shoots sub MOA in this rifle. Application for this gun hardly needs that kind of accuracy but it sure is fun to make the shiney gun crowd jealous at the gun club when a dumpy looking rifle like that outshoots theirs.

May work up a load for the PSL "Dragunov" with .311 150 Speer SP if I want to scare the neighbors when the walk by my stand. Would be kind of cool to shoot a deer with this gun. Approaching MOA with Commie surplus 150 gr even with the horrendous trigger pull. Should really shine with a good handload.

Well, I think I will have the 300WSM and 35 Whelen out in Idaho for elk this Fall. Pretty sure on the Whelen, the 300, well, as long as it shoots the way it did when I left, I think it'll be good.

300WSM 180 AB's at 3030

Then hopefully I can get the 264 Win Mag out some. It is shooting really well with the 140 BT's and RL25 at 3180

Then, last but not least, the 45-70 shooting Dave 405 grain bullets, with RL7. I think these are running right around 1700 or so.. Pretty fearsome combo

Should be fun... There are a couple others that may get to hunt, but those are the main rifles this Fall.

Those look great Scotty! That .35 Whelen combo: 225 gr AccuBond & RL-15, seems mighty popular here...

That 405 gr bullet over RE-7 for around 1700 fps is a mighty fine combo too.

Those with multiple hunting rifles.. Dang, it occurs to me how fortunate we are. I remember Dad had one hunting rifle cartridge, the .30-06. He did have two rifles for it: the 1917, and his sporterized Springfield. We just did it all with those two rifles when I was young.

Likely accounts for my contention that a guy really only "needs" a .22, a .30-06 and a 12 gauge.

Scotty,

Those are fearsome loads that'll take down any game they are tasked to tackle.

SJB - We share the same ID medicine.
35 Whelen and 300 WSM both with ABs
I also slip in the 30-06 with 180 gr PT.

Want to head to California to pig hunt this winter and will use the 280 Rem with 150 gr E-tips.

I think I am going retro this year. I am going to take my 264 WM on its first trip to Wyoming. I stumbled across some old 140 partitions (the old yellow box, cannelured stuff) along with some winchester/western brass in the old 20 count boxes. Light it up with some rem mag lr primers from the same era. Just want to take a step back. Probably even mount an old redfield widefield I have on the rifle to stay in the same era. Now I just need a checkered flannel jacket and some fuel for my Jon-e handwarmer. My camera has a black & white setting; I may even take some of the photos b&W. That's the plan anyway.

That sounds pretty cool.. Gotta load it up with good old H4831 then!

That looks eminently fascinating, Luv2Hunt. I believe that will be a lot of fun. I'll look forward to your B&W photos. You have chosen a great cartridge to work with.

Wow, great picture buddy! I like that.. Very cool. Can't wait to see your load work..

Wow, those yellow box Partitions bring back memories! I still have some of these Partitions but not still in the box, if my son will ever send me my plastic drawer, steel loading box as he has been promising me for five years. I would like to do a side-by-side with the new ones in .338 (.340 actually). That would be fun!

I used those screw machine (Swiss Automatic) bullets with cannula crimp groove for many years before Nosler finally went to a semi-boatail Partition design and now back to flat base. They all performed well and were pretty accurate in my Winchesters (minute-of-a-mule deer to 450 yards). But hey, I only have been using Partitions since 1963.
