The draws should be over by now . where are you guys going , and what are you hunting this season ? I always enjoy reading about other guys plans . Good luck and safe travels
I somehow managed not to draw a mule deer tag in Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Wyoming. I did manage to draw elk tags in Oregon and Idaho. Thinking about going over to the west side of the state and hunt Blacktails, that is an over the counter hunt. It’s been years since I hunted them but one of my nieces is a forester over there and has offered to guide me. She cant say that without laughing. It would be fun. I may just hunt bears and scout for elk however. The unit I’m hunting elk in Oregon is essentially my backyard. I can throw my kit in my truck and be driving into the unit in about 10 minutes. The Idaho unit is 3 1/2 hours from the house.
My dogs are too old for much of a hunt anymore and most of the areas we have hunted chukar and pheasants for the last 60 years has burned to the ground this week. Will go look for pockets of ground that may hold chukars and will definitely have to go explore some new places.
I’ll do a little exploring down in Arizona for quail if /when we get down there this year. It’ll be important to stay near home this fall.
Due to the accident, my hunting plans for this fall have been cancelled.
Should be able to do some load development for the new 25 Creedmoor!
But at least we had a great hunt is South Africa before the accident!
I would love to be able to get out for a couple of days late this fall with my NIB Rem 870 Wingmaster in 28 ga to get a few ruffies, but we will see how the shoulder recovers (cannot shoulder it yet), and how my mobility is come late Sept/early October. (Still not weight bearing on the leg yet...but should be soon!)
With good physio and rehab of the injured leg and shoulder, I hope to be back in SA next May to be able to save on my flights from the cancelled trip home in May (only have 1 year to rebook), and try to find that eland that eluded me!
Susan says she won't be going back (not just because of the accident, as she does not fly well, and this trip was hard on her in that regard.)
But she says I must find a travel companion! Anyone looking at a hunt in SA for next May???
Cool old historic Lodge, great people, country and game!
