To check or not to check?????

I am going to start casting my own lead for my .44 mag super blackhawk. It will be used for IHMSA shooting and everything else. Myquestion is when leading into the 1200 fps range, is a gas check needed. I must get the right mould the first time so I need and education on the subject. Any help is greatyly appreciated. :grin:

I believe for many of the hard cast bullets 1500 fps or so is the threshold.
If thee slugs are relatively hard then you should be good.

A GC is not needed. I shot 1000s of 250grK slugs @ 1300fps + in IHMSA. The trick is to size the slug to your bore & make them reasonably hard alloyed.
