.25-20 WCF

It's awesome that you were able to get it in a trade. As for the shift in impact with the cast lead bullets, you may experience some differences due to the change in weight and composition, but it's hard to predict exactly how much.

As for the shift in impact with the cast lead bullets, you might experience a slight change due to the heavier weight and different composition, but it shouldn’t be drastic. The lube, gas check, and powder adjustments will help, but I’d recommend testing and adjusting your load for the best results. traffic road

Forty-five years ago the 25-20 was a favorite among a small group of five of us for hunting snowshoe hare with beagles. That was before they reintroduced wolves into this part of Wisconsin. Now you can't find a snowshoe in this part of the state. Growing up small game hunting like this was very popular, but not today. Small game isn't where the money is at, so we don't see much of our conservation dollars spent on it.

Small game hunting is a very under appreciated endeavor. I was elk hunting with my father in law ten or so years back in Eastern Idaho. Fresh snow but not a single fresh elk track in the area. But there were cottontails everywhere. After trading my .30-06 for a .22 in the back seat of my pickup, I decided to start rabbit hunting. I think it ticked my F-I-L off a bit at first but I shot 8 rabbits in 8 shots all through the head. We went home and feasted with the family!

The .25-20 to me checks an awful lot of boxes. It is a great round for ground squirrels and chucks, and I would gladly use it on coyotes too. I think I would use it on deer if I could get one close enough to put a bullet just so.

My only regret is that I didn’t seek one out sooner in life. Its a fun cartridge and rifle!

A friend of mine has several boxes of 25-20 for sale if anyone is in need.

Man, these old .25-20s are low-key awesome! Who knew a cartridge from 1892 could still vibe so hard?
Switching to cast bullets? No biggie – my 75gr loads hit tin cans 1 thumb-width lower at 50yds vs jacketed. Pro tip: Load Ramshot Enforcer at 9gr first for that sweet 『pew... plink』subsonic serotonin.
PS: That 1894 Winchester in the forum pics? Chef's kiss 👌 Take it coyote hunting and let the bolt-action boys cry in jealousy.
