Small game hunting is a very under appreciated endeavor. I was elk hunting with my father in law ten or so years back in Eastern Idaho. Fresh snow but not a single fresh elk track in the area. But there were cottontails everywhere. After trading my .30-06 for a .22 in the back seat of my pickup, I decided to start rabbit hunting. I think it ticked my F-I-L off a bit at first but I shot 8 rabbits in 8 shots all through the head. We went home and feasted with the family!Forty-five years ago the 25-20 was a favorite among a small group of five of us for hunting snowshoe hare with beagles. That was before they reintroduced wolves into this part of Wisconsin. Now you can't find a snowshoe in this part of the state. Growing up small game hunting like this was very popular, but not today. Small game isn't where the money is at, so we don't see much of our conservation dollars spent on it.
