Well this year deer season has been a roller coaster.

I have cancelled more trips to the woods than I care to admit, but the reasons far outweigh me spending too much time complaining. Short and sweet version, my wife started her own business selling jewelry ( her dad and grandpa were both jewelers) and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are the best days so with the 3 kids all being under 6 years of age, I bit the bullet and told her to go after it. It wasn't the easiest thing to do, but I bit my lip and accepted it. Her goal is to have it blossom into a full time gig where she can quit her full time job and work from home, thus saving us money on childcare.

Anyway bow season was good to me, I passed on a couple does early on ( won't do that again) and I arrowed an 8pt on Nov 6th. My season was basically over then. I only hunted 2 hours on opening morning of rifle ( girls had basketball and wife a jewelry party to go to), and I got out a few times during doe rifle season but nothing.

Anyway during bow season I still hunted a ridge 400 yards away from where I have spent all my time at one windy rainy day. I was amazed at what I saw. All these rubs are on top of this ridge, spaced out about 30 yards apart.

There really wasn't any way for me to get in there and hang a stand, trim, etc... before the week of bowhunting Nov 2-10 so I filed it in my mind as a place to revisit. Plus with this being public land, you never know who else is gonna be in there.

Anyway fast forward to last Sunday. I hit the woods with a Cover M6 trail cam, bear proof steel box, and a python cable lock. I was very hesitant to put it out since my last cam was stolen out of these woods, albeit a different spot, but that cam was not in a security box either.

I left if for 4 days and went back Thursday morning. I was very pleased. At 709 am Monday HE showed up... ( camera time is wrong... the idiot who set it up didn't know what I.. er mean he was doing. )

Now I am no expert... but his belly isn't exactly sagging, or his back. His neck is still HUGE. Maybe a 5.5 year old? I would guesstimate his weight around 300 pounds. My buck from last year was 265 and not as big.

That was the only pic I got of him. Got some does, a button buck, and a turkey. I put in a new card, and I also set up another cam in my original valley. Gonna go back out this thursday and see what shows up..

Game on big boy.... don't get too comfortable. You have been officially selected as my quarry.

Looks to be a dandy, Pat. Trust you are able to get out and tag him. Good on you partnering with your good lady. It will pay rich dividends in the future.

Pat,

He is a pig. Good luck buddy, I hope you can put your tag on him.

Yeah, that one needs to be a freezer. See them every day like that in the back pasture by the new fish pond I built

You should post up a few pictures of some of them, would love to see the brutes walking around your pasture.

What a buck Pat! Man, that is a buck that is truly worthy of devoting some time to. Way to go, looks like that Covert camera is already paying dividends.

That is a very good trophy!! I hope that you get a crack him ASAP

Blessings,
Dan

A dandy buck, he looks like a young steer with antlers. Straight backed and plump, the best kind.
