Hi guys. sighted in my 338 WM yesterday and groups were great at 100 yds, after installing leoupold QR mounts  . got home and while cleaning my rifle noticed that the rear of the trigger guard was moving a tad, so i snugged it up, and the front one also both just under 1/4 turn, well this change my POI?..im going to the range again before my moose hunt...thank-you..Lou

Most likely it will have an effect on your POI.

The last Vanguard I bought (new) had loose bottom screws, but it wasn't the only one. A Savage varminter I got 3 weeks ago also had the loose screw deal. Its best to go over the screws before that first trip to the range.

Caldwell markets a nice torque-wrench package with ft/lb settings for all types of gun-screws.

I've had some that did little and some that really changed POI and group size. I would re-check the zero after tightening screws or removing and replacing the stock during cleaning just to make sure.

If the screws come loose again, a little Lock-Tite on the threads should take care of the problem.

Thanks again guys, i well try it out again this weekend and see, i well let you know how it goes, Lou

Well i went to the range today, and yes the POI was very much off, hitting 3" to the left and 1.5" low...got it shooting to were i had it before..fired 30 rounds today with some nice groups, checked the screws and they were both nice and snug  ..Thanks again..Lou

Nice, glad you were able to get your rifle sorted out. What load are you shooting in your 338? I see you mention 250gr PT's just wondering what you are loading them with. I am getting fairly close to getting to my 338 and I would like to know what others are using with 250gr PT's and Accubonds? Scotty

Hi Scotty, I dont reload my ammo yet, Im shooting Federal vital shok in the 250 GR NP..they group very well out of my bee...less than 1" at 100 yds, not bad for factory ammo  ..also shoot Hornady Superformance sst 225gr (much cheaper) very tight groups as well, .75" at 100 yds, gonna use these for Deer size game, I have 2 scopes sighted in with these loads, using Leupold QR mounts...Lou

Lou, that sounds like a great load. I have a good handload for the 225gr SST's right now. Those 250gr Noslers should be pretty awesome for about anything. Scotty
