i recently ordered some winchester brass from midway for my dads 220 swift, when i received the brass i measured several pieces and found that they ranged from 2.176 to 2.190, this was already shorter than the minium trim length of 2.195 that is listed in all of my books, except my nosler bk which does'nt show trim length i don't believe, i thought maybe resizing would extend them a little, but it did'nt. ( most of the new brass avg. around 2.185).
Midway said that sammi spec's on 220 swift was a trim of 2.185, if this is so, then why do all my books show 2.195 ?
i tried calling lyman, speer, sierra and nosler this afternoon, but it's impossible to get through on a friday, to ask them if my brass is trimmed to 2.185 if i could still use the c.o.l. set up for a known load out of their bk in lyman or speer bk or when using my stoney point to find my o.a.l. if i could still use that number on my new brass which seems to be already shorter than it should be.
Maybe i'm being a little picky or paranoid, but i just want to make sure i'm being safe, i've never had something like this come up, up until now, all my new brass has always been longer than trim length.
i would appreciate any help at all- been looking forward to loading this load for a while. thank you

k101; The max length for the 220 Swift is 2.205" and the trim length is .010" shorter, or 2.195" If you have brass shorter than that already, I would not bother to trim any of the short ones. Just load them up and shoot them as they are. If you are loading the Swift to anywhere near it's potential, that brass will soon be up to length. The brass length you mentioned will not affect the C.O.L. of your loaded rounds. The only downside is that shorter necks may apply slightly less tension on the bullet, which may affect accuracy a wee bit. I have been shooting the Swift for over 35 years, and have seen a lot of new brass that was shorter than specs. Never ran into any problems by using it, either. Regards, Eagleye.
