Upcoming bullet test!

Hey, I've set aside some empty milk jugs... And have some time at the range coming up... What do you guys want to see tested? Here's some possibilities based on what I've got on hand:

.30-06/220 gr Nosler Partition :grin:
.30-06/200 gr Nosler Partition
.375 H&H/300 gr Nosler Partition

Most of my other rifle bullets have already been tested, if not by me, then by someone else, like the 115 gr .257" Ballistic Tips - I haven't tested them, but it's been posted.

I've also got some handgun stuff avail, some 9mm hollow point ammo, and some .38 Special hollow point factory ammo too.

All my .44 mag handloads are either 240/250 gr cast, or 300 gr cast. Not really much fun to test, they go through about a dozen jugs and don't deform anyway. Pretty much what I expect from the 300 gr .375" full-metal-jacket round nose bullets, tremendous penetration without upsetting the bullet at all.

So... Heavy .375 or .30 cal Partitions? Just for fun? :grin:

Guy my pick is both the 200 and the 220 in the 30-06! It should be a great one and completely blow Scotty's 35 Whelen out of the water! :lol: Are you going to torture them at 20 yards or so this time again? Have fun, but that goes without saying. :grin:

I would like to see all of them so you had better start drinking milk :lol: The 220 gr Partition was a favorite when I had a 308 Norma Mag I still can remember it knocking the snot out of a big black bear, never seen a bear drop like that. BTW it did 6 jugs when I did the test years ago at 2700 fps. It will also be interesting to see how the 300 gr Partition does compared to the 300 gr AccuBond. Have fun Guy.

I already know two out of three of the measurable results here. Violent expansion with 60-70% weight retention. Doesn't matter which load you choose. Boring... :grin:

After you decide we can start a poll to capture everyone's guess as to how many jugs each bullet will penetrate?

Personally I'd be interested in comparing the 200 gr NP out of your .308 vs the 220gr out of your M1917.

I'm thinking it's going to be prioritized with the 220 gr .30-06 load first... I've long been interested in how it will do.

There's a famous brown bear guide up in Alaksa, Phil Shoemaker. He's written a few articles about hunting the big brownies up there and is a real rifle nut too. One of the things that kind of knocked me back a bit was his enthusiastic praise of the good old .30-06 as a brown bear gun, when loaded with 200 or 220 gr Nosler Partitions...

Gunwriter John Barsness, who also knows his way around a rifle, has written that he considers the 200 gr Partition from a .30-06 a very good elk load.

Might just have to see for myself someday. In the meantime, water jugs will have to suffice.

I think the 220 gr is going to be an eye opener for all of us. At 2400 fps, the penetration is going to be impressive to say the least.

My buddy shot a Remington factory 300 RUM 200 gr PT load into water jugs at 200 yds and it was an impressive looking bullet.

For arguments sake I will say at least 9. They are coming out slow, so expansion will be a little later.

I vote for the 30-06 loads of 220 and 200 PTs. They should do quite well I'd guess. I'm a little biased - Just aquired a never been fired New Haven Mod 70 Supergrade in '06. I'll post picts when I receive rifle. I'm a heavy for caliber guy most of the time. 8)

BcBillies who has just joined here recently has taken 3 grizzlies and a mountain goat with the 220 gr Partitions in his 300 WM @ 2700 fps (with RL 25 BTW) , it is an impressive bullet. One of the bears was over 8 feet and 18 years old IIRC.

Yeah, the 220's out of the 30-06 and the 300 PT's out of your H&H would be awesome as well.

I have a bunch of 200 PT's out of a 300 Win Mag. Like CC said, boring performance. They just go deep and look like expanded PT's!

Those 220's in the 30-06 would be about as traditional as it gets for a hunting round.

Scott, any pics of the new Supergrade 30-06! That sounds like a very cool rifle!

David, never in a million years will the 30-06 beat the Whelen! Keep trying to talk yourself out of one...... It'll haunt you. The Whelen and you are meant to be!
