Well, I just wanted to throw up some pictures of our final deer hunt for the 2011 season... I know it is actually 2012.

Shaun with his first deer. Shot it on the run, about 35 yards with a Browning BLR 358 and a 225 PT

Here is where I took that little deer. Dropped it in the creek. It was pretty cool as the creek ran RED with blood for 10-15 minutes. Thought it was neat. First take with the M336C 35 Remington. Used the 200gr CLRN. Worked better it should. I think I may hunt a little more with that little 35 as well. Nice short range thumper

Had a great time out there. Brian is a great hunting partner and we brought another hunter into the game head first. Pretty sure Shaun is headed to pick up his M70 300WSM Extreme Weather today! Scotty

Good stuff, Scotty! The area you're hunting in VA is pretty similar to a lot of north Alabama. Nice country, I'm sure. If you're not ready to quit hunting, there are feral hogs in north Alabama with no closed season and no bag limit...

Great report, Scotty. Good on you and Brian for introducing Shaun to the hunt. So your son didn't connect yesterday? The 35 Rem is a great woods cartridge, as you have demonstrated. It will put deer on the ground.

Scotty,

Looks like you all had a blast.
Congratulations on another successful hunt and to Shaun on his first deer.

Nice doing Scotty, enjoy, and have a cold one pal! ...Lou..

Nice work Scotty! I think you night need a bit bigger caliber next time for those monster deer!

It was fun having Scotty and the gang down this year for deer season. Even better that Scotty's son and Shaun both got first kills hunting with us! Now we move on to some waterfowl hunts before that season goes out and yote hunt as much as we can.

I am looking at putting something together that should be able to put them in their place, once and for all!

Nah, just kidding. I hunt where I can, when I can. Beggars can't be choosers and hunting in the Southern Va with Brian and his folks is a blast. I would rather be out in the Rocky's chasing elk, but I take what I am allowed to take and have a blast doing it!

Now, hopefully we can start working on some coyotes!

Man, I can just about taste those deer from here. I hope you guys enjoy them :)

When I saw these pictures I remembered a discussion we had up in NE Oregon, regarding which was smaller the eastern whitetail or the blacktails in my back yard. Of course everything next to these guys looks small, but those deer have to be "really" small. Bet they eat good however!! Its a long time until next fall. Have a great day all !!

Good stuff Gunny!

35 Remington eh?
Just acquired a Marlin 336 chambered as such myself!

Hey now.... not ALL eastern whitetails are small!

The doe I shot last weekend taped 39.5" around the chest behind the foreleg. Weight charts call it 180+ live weight.

Scotty's just trying to show off his marksmanship by selecting smaller targets than I did....

;)

And Shaun made a great choice in rifles to acquire!

Your going to love it Howard. Go get yourself some WW cases, Leverevolution powder and 200 gr CLRN bullets. They are really accurate and as Jim told me, the perfect bullet for the little 35.

Tom, Shaun should be getting his EW tomorrow. Got it from my local gun pusher. Can't wait to get him set up. I told him I would load for his rifle is he got the 300WSM.
