Well, here is my 300WBY Vanguard. I know, its not one of those pretty MK5's like Fotis roles with, but this rifle is pillar bedded into the plastic stock and has a one hole factory target. I originally bought the exact same rifle in 7RM, and my buddy bought the 300WBY. His sat in his closet unfired, and I did a little bit of work with the 7RM, so we swapped. Anyhow, I am in the works of getting another picatinny rail and Leupold QRW rings. Not sure what scope is going on it yet, but maybe a Conquest with the Z600 reticle? Who knows.

Thanks for Woodycreek I have a ton of 300WBY cases and RCBS dies. Might just load some 180gr BT's for it. I really don't have any immediate hunting plans with it, and I think a 180gr BT would handle deer if I did wanna use it this year...

Quick question, do you guys know if bases are interchangeable for the Vanguards from Remington or Savage? Just wondering. I have a set of Talleys for this rifle, but would rather stick with a rail and QRW. Scotty

Scotty, very nice rifle. Who painted the stock? I have been wondering what I was gonna paint mine with. I decided on textured hunter green. I guess we will see how that goes. Can't wait to see some range results.

It is a factory stock. I thought it was a Sage Country, but it doesn't have the extra swirls in it? Three of my buddies bought the rifles the same day. All identical, one 300WBY, 7RM, and a 270 Win. They are pretty neat in that they are pillar bedded already. Plus, they are pretty grippy. I actually like the rifle alot. Hoping it isn't a vicious kicker, but it has a nice big recoil pad. The 7RM was a baby off the bench.

Here is a picture of the original 7RM. Scotty

Those Bees can be shooters. Good looking rifle. Undoubtedly, it will be satisfying as it gives you the results you are seeking. I worked up a load with 180 BTs for a fellow over in AB. They gave me bug-holes. Nothing wrong with that.

Its funny, I am a huge Winchester M70 guy, but I really think, dollar for dollar, the Vanguards are some seriously good rifles. Granted, I have only owned two of them, but they are very affordable and guaranteed for a certain amount of accuracy. Plus, the actions are pretty slick. There are some little things I don't like, but nothing more than any other rifle.

I do like it. I hope it shoots. Seems like RL22, RL25, IMR7828 should do okay.. Scotty

Nice rifle, buddy! I really like the Howas/Vanguards (7WSM and .223 respectively) and will most likely pick up a few more. With the SS being available again from Weatherby, I may need to pick up a 7mm Wby.

Remington 700s and Vanguards supposedly use the same bases... hope so, 'cause I have both Talley LW and Leupy DD for mine.

Scotty,

Very nice rifle you have there. A VX-3 3.5-10x40mm or 4.5-14x40mm would be just about perfect. Load it up with aome 200 gr AB or PT loads and you have an excellent back up elk rifle for your upcomming OR elk hunt.

BK, thanks for the heads up on the Remington bases working. I wonder if it is the same for the one piece picatinny style bases? I would like to put the same one on this Weatherby as what is on my Winchesters.

I wished they chambered the 7mm WBY in the Vanguards. That is a cool round! I like the MK5's but most of them are heavier than I like. They make good rifles and their customer service is AWESOME. I have contacted them a few times and always spoke with a person in less than a minute! Try that with Remington. Scotty

I like those two scopes also Jim. Might try a Zeiss this time around though. Not totally sold yet, but they do make some that I like, and may jump in. Joel and Mike have used them enough to give a solid recommendation so that means alot. It is hard to go away from the Golden Ring though! I just don't get a decent discount on their Hunting scopes, all my discount is for their tactical variety and I don't really want one of them. Scotty

Scotty, you'd better be careful. If you get a Conquest, you may never go back to the gold ring. Those Conquests are frankly the best scope for the money I've looked through.

We will see (literally).. I can get the 3x9-40mm with the Z600 reticle for a great price, so I might go that direction. It would be my first step away from a Leupold for my serious hunting rifles. Scotty

You should look at vortex optics too. I got a viper 6.5-20x44mm on my 22-250 and it is a great scope! I ordered a 4-12 for my vanguard! They also have top notch customer service.

Forget the pretty MKV's . Range report talks !!!!

I agree. Got a 6x20x50mm on my 7mm rum sendero

I had one a few years ago that shot super at 100 yards with 180g NBTs and 200g ABs, however it didn't hold up at 400 yards, not even close. I dont really know what the deal is/was as I sold the rifle since it was more of something new to play with for a while and not a serious rifle at the time. I didn't wanna figure out why it would shoot 1/2" at 100 yards day in and day out, then shoot 8" groups at 400 yards day in and day out off a bench...

I'll let ya know here in a couple weeks how I like my 6.5-20x44 Viper as well. I'm still waiting on my weaver 20 MOA tactical base for my 243, been backordered forever from every place I've looked for last month or so.

Yah I dont know if you got enough gun or bullet there with those 180g NBTs for deer...Might just bounce off em these days with all the bonded bullets around ya know, deer dont like those NBTs much.

Oh, I don't know. I have bought a bunch of Conquests lately (six I think) but I still find a use for Leupys... a 6x42, a 4.5-14, and the latest is a 2.5-8 with M1 elevation knob. Probably gonna get a 4.5-14 with a 30mm tube for my M70 Coyote.
