300 Weatherby Loading and old stuff

Thanks for the heads up on that. I will start scrounging for the 300WBY brass. I have a good buddy that shoots the 300 Weatherby and does not reload, so maybe I can steal his cases from him. Worst case is he wants me to do his load work, which would be fine by me also.

Looking forward to getting some range time with the rifles soon. Got a huge hankering to see what this rifle does! Scotty

Scotty, Hornady also makes 300Wby brass. I've not used it yet in 300Wby, but I used a box in 7mmRemMag when I was working on one of those, and the brass is good quality. The Remington 700 in 7mmRemMag was not so good quality, but that's another story. The Hornady stuff is a little bit less than the Nosler (at old prices) last time I checked, but it could have jumped by now again.

I've been using Remington brass in the 300Wby in my safe, and it's worked fine so far. Is it as good as my 270Wby Norma brass? No, but it's a little harder and the primer pockets are more durable. After 4-5 loadings at near max, the Norma brass has loosened to the point it won't hold primers in some of them. Hate to chuck expensive brass into the recycle bucket, but it is what it is. Keep an ear out, sometimes you can find once fired Weatherby brass for reasonable prices. I keep meaning to happen upon some when I have the coin to buy it, but I haven't in a year or two. I've got 100rds of virgin Weatherby headstamped brass for my 270Wby that I'm saving until this Norma is all toast, but that should be a little while, still.

Along the same lines as Oldman's 8mmRemMag advice, one could also neck up 7mmSTW brass, though you might get some thinning of the necks on some of it. Whichever way you go, if you neck up or down, I'd be sure to anneal it afterward. Probably about as cheap to buy the REmmy 300'bee brass.

Thanks for the heads up. I see Nosler stuff is 60.00 for 50. Probably the best deal for me right now. Scotty

I'm driving by the Pro Shop tomorrow, I'll see what they have in stock.

Sounds good, anything 264WM or 300WBY would be awesome.

I found another box of for 180gr Winchester Silvertips 300 H&H. They aren't Silvertips though, just a bunch of Pointed Soft Points. The box is in decent shape also. The Remington UMC Match stuff is pretty good looking though. Scotty

I picked up a bag of 50 .264 WinMags yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't see any .300 Weatherbys. I'll be going by there again if you want me to pick up some more. Lemme know.

Send me a PM with your address and I will get some H&H stuff in the mail for you. 264 is great. Makes life easier for me. Scotty
