Well, last week I ordered a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32mm scope with a Duplex reticle.

I also ordered the Leupold PWR low mount rings and the Alumina Flip-Back scope covers.

Should be a great set up for the 1895 Guide 45-70. I will post some pictures once I get her mounted up.

Can't wait to see it, Jim!!

Instead of the VX3 2.8-8 I mentioned to you, I opted for another Zeiss 3-9x40. Picked it up locally for $389 new and she looks good sitting on top of the model 70. Now I'm just waiting to hear from Pac-Nor so I can discuss my barrel.

That should be the ideal setup for your 45-70, Jim. Good choice.

Nice scopes. Been considering that 1.75x6 for my .375 H&H...

Guy,

On a big bore rifle, I think this is all the scope you really need. The 1.75x will give you a lot of FOV for up close and personal situations and 6X is more than adequate for big game out to 300 yds.

JD, you'll really appreciate the 1.75X6. I have one on my Remington 742 that I spoke about in an earlier post. Plenty of power for any situation. I can see one inch bulls at 100 yards with no problem whatsoever. very good light gathering scope.

I was thinking about putting one of the VX3 1.75-6 on my 375 R and moving the VXIII 2.5-8 on to my 45-70 lever gun that is on my wish list. Think might be a bit over kill for the 45-70, but I just really think a 375 of any sort needs that classic looking scope on it. Like Guy's 375 H&H No 1. Love the way that thing looks.

Let me know how you like it Jim.

Well the scope should have arrived today via UPS but it has been delayed. Here is the message I got from the UPS Tracking System-
Location Date Local Time Description
HODGKINS, IL, US 07/26/2010 10:00 P.M. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
TUALATIN, OR, US 07/21/2010 9:32 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
07/21/2010 6:09 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
US 07/21/2010 7:23 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

Apparently my scope is on a UPS truck somewhere between OR and IL and UPS can't tell me where it is until it gets scanned.

Needless to say, I am more than a little disappointed in UPS!

I know this is going to be a great scope for the 45-70. It is very close to the same size as the 2.5-8x36mm. If it were me, I would keep the 2.5-8x36mm on the 375 Ruger and put the 1.75-6x32mm on the 45-70.

Here is my 1805 Guide 45-70 with the Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32mm scope in Leupold PRW Low Rings. She is sighted in and ready to rock.
Did I mention that this scope is nice!

Well that scope surely looks fine perched atop that Guide Gun. Good looking set-up, JD338.

Here is a little better picture.

Hmmm! Looks just as good with a little more light as it did in the shadows. It is a sweet looking scope for that Guide Gun.

Thanks Scotty.

Going long tomorrow. We will see how she shoots at 200 and 300 yds.

JD338

Man, I can't wait to see how it does out at longer ranges. I know mine was doing very decent at 200, i need to put it on paper at 300! Might be surprising. Scotty

Scotty,

Based on a 100 yd zero at 2138 fps, 200 yds -9.9" and 300 yds -37.0".
I will have to use some Kentucky windage.

JD338

Wonder what a 3" high at 100 yard zero would get you? I can't wait to try the SABR out a little further. Scotty
