We braved the rain and swollen creek to shoot at the range this morning. Beats watching TV at home. We have the range all to ourselves The rangemaster did not even bother to show-up. He knows better. For those who are familiar with West End Gun Club Shooting Range, here in the Inland Empire in Southern California knows how bad the creek gets, considering the amount of downpour like we had this morning. I know it was bad when the water splashed over the hood of my truck as I crossed the creek. Guns, ammo were all soaking wet. I have to cover the muzzle end to keep water out. The first shot from my 6.5 was a dud. Don't know what happen. Either primer got wet or there's no powder in the case.

Anyway, here's some picture from this morning shoot. We pretty much have to swim to change our target. The Forest Ranger thought we were crazy to cross the creek in such condition. We have fun though.

Great photos of your fun day. Especially like that 4x4 chevy truck. I got one just like it.

At least you have the range to yourselves. Oh, yeah, and you don't have to shovel the rain!

Yeah! we all drive GM cars. Mine is the only 4 wheel drive, so I went first and wait for the rest to cross the widening creek. Not even a hicup from the Duramax.

Yep! it's rarety to have the range to ourselves. The problem was, we're all soaking wet and shaking like a leaf. Also, we have to cross the creek to change the target and the water was knee deep and freezing cold. Our rifles were dripping wet too. I have to keep the water from getting into the bore.

You've got that right CL. The Forest Ranger thought so too. Actually, I started to get worried when the rain never let up for 5 hours. I have to tell everyone that it's time to head out. I don't want to watch the Superbowl in my truck. :( Well, at least I had it verified that rain doesn't deflect the bullet from it's intended path no matter how heavy the downpour.

Morning DF,

Good pix, good stories and Good Shooting. However, even I aint going out in the rain, I might catch a cold..

May I ask about the "We"? Did you go shooting with family & friends?

Looks like fun, regardless of the weather. This time of year its difficult to shoot due to the snow. I went out a couple weeks back and was plowing show with my GMC to get to the range.

I'm a fair weather range shooter. If my hands start getting really cold I loose all interest in the range really fast. It's funny because I'll endure all kinds of foul weather when I'm hunting.

DF,

Good to see the 6.5 out.....
I have to agree with the rest however.... spent all day yesterday hiking around in a foot to a foot and a half of snow trying to call coyotes while snowing.....

How did she shoot ?

Naw, Nodak aint gonna go out in the rain and catch cold....now frostbite of the trigger finger or a hand froze to the bolt handle, thats a differnt matter. course its understandable as hes had way more than his share of "high water" if I remember correctly. That aint no fun. Mine are still in moth balls and probably gonna stay there for a while. another foot of snow in the next couple days. CL

Mark, the 6.5 shoots really well. I just started loading the hunting version of the 140 grain Berger VLD and I was able to print 3/4" 3 shot with two bullet touching and one open up the group. I was impressed even in those condition yesterday, with rain, wind and all. I settled with 51 grains of IMR 4831. With this load, I can get 2970 fps on average.

By the way, I'm applying for Colorado this year. Not sure where my buddies are going but I'll let you know.

Rod, we welcome rain here in Southern Cal. We don't get enough of it. I was with my hunting buddies yesterday. One of them scored on an older Sako AV in 7MM Mag with Semi-Fancy wood, complete with Leupold Vari-XIII 4.5X14 on top. He was itching to try it, so off to the range we went. Besides I was also anxious to see how the 140 grain Berger VLD Hunting perform in my 6.5. :)

That sounds like a great range day. Unfortunately my range has 18" of snow on it. I was going to venture out today with my quad to tote gear, but the wind has kicked up a little too heavy. I guess we are all a little looney when it comes to shooting.

DF, that Sako sounds like a nice rifle. Any pictures of that? Scotty
