Question for the other Weatherby people on here. I've got a factory takeoff barrel from a Mk V synthetic in 30-378. It's the 26" bead blasted finish #5 contour cut-rifled criteon or whatever they are called barrel made by Kreiger. It's came with the brake and thread protector ring. I ordered it as a spare for my Accumark as the 30-378 is supposed to be hard on barrels.

Are the Threads on a German Mk V the same as on a Jap or the new American made Mk V's???????

I've got somebody wanting to buy this barrel and wanted to check if they are all the same??

CC.

If I have to rebarrel my Accumark I'll want another 28" or longer, but it isn't showing any issues yet and I kinda baby that one alot. I only shoot 4-5 boxes a year with it and it had 200 rnds thro it when I got it.

The threads are the same on all of the 9 lug actions.

Now my skeptsism radar is on as for one, you can't "order" a spare barrel. Doesn't work that way. No way WBY would sell you a barrel ready for your gunsmith to install. Never happened. Secondly a "bead blasted" would make me assume you are saying bead blasted blued steel barrel. If so then it is not a Critreon. They are only stainless. Lastly it would not be a #5 contour. The biggest it would be would be a #3. Just a observation from someone who knows that details matter.

Pardon me, I didn't order it, bought it on Gunbroker as a take off. I had assumed it was a Criterion barrel, it came off of a Mk V synthetic 30-378.

You are correct, that is a #3 contour, button rifled barrel. I double checked the website. My Accumark has withstood 500 rounds of 30-378 thro a button rifled barrel, Which is incredible.

According to the guy I bought it from it was removed to build a carbon wrapped barrel, ulralite rifle. That is as much as I know about this barrel, it is stamped 30-378wby and there are no other markings on the barrel.

The brake appears identical to the one on my Accumark with a different finish.

Thanks for the information regarding the threads.

What are you going to do with the rifle? Keep it or sell it? The 30-378 is one real fast hot rod for sure and very accurate.

Actually, the Criterion barrels are not all stainless. In fact, all Mark V's from a certain point on (except some .224cal varmint guns) are using Criterion barrels. I have verified that my blued synthetic has one, as does the accumark a friend has. The only reason the criterion nomenclature was dropped from the current catalog is the varmint barrel issue - easier to not advertise it than to explain in print the differences, as well as the issue with Krieger barrels being cut-rifled and different than the Criterion barrel, which is manufactured with the button rifling process and done only for OEM use.

I will have to check that out, a few friends of ours on the Weatherby Rifles forum and one of them being Bighorn verified the info I gave above. You might be write but I will also call Weatherby and double check.

I got my info straight from Weatherby, and I can attest to it being printed in the 2006 catalog, as well (except the part about the varmint guns not having Criterion barrels). I've got a copy around here somewhere - if I can find it still. I have had this conversation over on the Nation and the brass at Weatherby back this info on there, as well. Don't believe everything you hear on the other forum. I've had this discussion there, too.

I want to keep my 30-378 Accumark, the spare barrel is still for sale. I really like the rifle and the velocity it gives. I've gotten 3500 fps with 180 NAB's and 111.0 grns retumbo, although the bolt gets a little tight at 3600 fps with 112.0 grns. IT shoots very accurately with a cheap little 10X40 Elite 3200 wanna-be tactical scope, sub-MOA out to 500 yds if I do my part. I haven't tried it out farther than that.

That having been said, I would buy a Rem 700 Sendero or an SPS with a custom barrel in 300 Ultra if I were to do it again. I would then spend the difference in price on a Jewell trigger, tapered base, Leupold Mk 4 tactical or a Elite 6500 long range scope and Competition dies.

Course, I did want one since it was introduced in 97........

"Not sure if the wanting was better than the getting" tho.... to quote Bullet.

Might have to build the 300 RUM to know for sure, and that would require selling the weatherby. Not a good idea as my wife claims it most times we go out togather..... She is a bit touched that way,  shoots the 7mm STW without a brake too  Can't say that I'm not gleeful to see a 5'4" blonde hammering off rounds with these canons.....

Thanks for the info and it is good to know that Weatherby confirmed the information. Really appreciate it dubyam. :)
