Well my friend with the problem 270 winchester decided to buy a new rifle. I recommended the Weatherby Series 2 so we went down to the local sports store, checked them out (I already had checked them out once, twice, well maybe three times)

All I can say again for $429.00, Weatherby's quality is, in my opinion untouchable. Since they did not have a 270 Winnie there, he decided on the 30-06 (good choice)

We took the rifle out to the range for break-in. 4 hours and 40 rounds later, we were very happy. Rather cool day and no hot sun so barrel temps stayed moderate with only a 4-6 minute cooling between 3 rounds. Using inexpensive over the counter Winchester Super X 180 gr rounds, the rifle started right off shooting 1" groups and at the end, less than 1" groups. I was seriously not trying either. I really think this rifle can squeeze out less than 3/4" consistent groups with this inexpensive ammo.

If I had a real good excuse (and I am still thinking of one), I would buy one of these in 7mm Rem Mag. The stock is solid, the grip is perfect, slender but thick enough for most hands. The trigger literally is a sweet crisp point and click and the bolt like all other Vanguards is smooth and no clinking. ...and dog gone it, it is shooting inexpensive ammo like it was hand reloaded.

The Weatherby Series 2 is getting lots of good press these days.

I got a little excited when I found out that Ed Weatherby announced yestederday that they would be producing the S2 in .240 Weatherby....that little cartridge has intrigued me for a few years but I never wanted to drop the cash to buy a MkV chambered for such an oddball little round.

But $429 (likely less on the shelf)? Heck yeah! I'll drop that for a .243 on Viagra!

I have the Series 1 in 338 Win Mag and have always been happy with it. The trigger could be improved (which they heard enough about it and corrected it in Series 2)

The Series 2 is much better balanced as well. It took me a bit to get used to the colors. The gray is lighter than what shows on the web site. After shooting just a few rounds, this is definitely a nice rifle for the money. Yes there are better but for a bit more dollars.

I am having DTs just today about getting one. The wife said I could too... too much going on 19 days before hunting season here in Colorado so I just need to wait till after I bring home my record Bull, Cow and Black Bear. (I am dreaming  )

I am not coming home empty handed this year so if you hear about a Colorado hunter taking a squirrel with a 338winmag, you can guess it is probably me.

Steve I agree. Those Series 2 have alot going for them. One of them in a 257WBY would be sweet. Can't beat a three position safety and guaranteed MOA. Not too much bad you can say about that. Scotty

Did you happen to hear if a SS .240 would be available?

Do you have one? No? There's your reason!

I 2 can atest to the quality of the Weatherby Series2. beretzs wish for one in 257WBY came true for me while back. Well balanced, smooth action, and as accurate as the claim. I think it's a keeper...

I've been searching for info on this... do you have a link?

Ahh, thanks, man. Still doesn't answer my question, but at least I have another forum to browse!

Man a 240WBY would be one cool cat! Not sure what I'd use it for but man, what a screamer. Scotty

I'm thinking great winter rifle for caribou and predators (mainly wolves). Too much for yotes except way out yonder.

I'd honestly rather see a 7mm Weatherby, but I could see me picking up a .270 Weatherby.

I would like to see a short mag in a stainless. Again, a 7mm WSM would be great.

Now we just need to convince Ed to drop the 270WSM and add the 270Wby

Blasphemy! He just knows which is the better performer!

Just kidding, but I do have a vested interest in the mighty 270WSM! Scotty

Wait till you start shooting your 7WSM's... Mike said how easy they were to load and shoot, and by God, he was right. It is one excellent performer with the few different powders and bullets I have tried. Scotty

I am a little skeptical of the solid bed (action & stock) of this new version, even thou Wea. guarantees the Series II for 1 MOA & the Vanguard for 1.5 MOA.
I wonder about using a bipod, certain field positions, etc. Not saying the rifle won't do as advertised & I hope some shooters here put them to the test (esp. with a bipod)

I like the feel & the trigger.

I can understand your concern, but somehow I see me dropping the rifle into another McMillan. Probably purple.

To each his own, if I were to spend the money for the rifle & then the stock, I think I would just get a used 700 & custom tube & good stock for not much more.

But again, I am not saying the set up does not work & I hope it proves consistant, as I would like to buy one, but I want to see alot of results first.
