I bought a Remington 700 260 rem, 1-8 rot looking for data for 100g NPT and 120 BT. I think it will fit the bill for a 12 year old 72 lb girl who likes to hunt with dad.

Hard to beat H 4895 for starting out, that's what we did in my wife's 6.5x55 starting out with 120 gr Ballistic Tips.

H 4895 actually does pretty good even at max loads not too far below full power H 4350 loads.

Those new Remington 700's with the faster twist are good guns from what I have read and extremely versatile as she gets bigger.
 
Well that's the hope I picked up a used youth short action bdl stock and I am going to drop it in that. As she grows put it back in the factory stock. It will be mostly a mule deer/elk gun. I know a little light for elk but better than a 243 and plenty have fallen to that. I just wanted a light recoil so she will enjoy it a much as possible. I figured we would start with the 100gr partitions and go from there.

I wouldn't underestimate the 260 for elk. A good 140gr bullet has a very good sectional density and will penetrate sufficiently. I wouldn't feel lacking with a 260 and a 140gr bullet for elk.

I would agree, I wouldn't think twice about hunting moose with a 260 either.

Have tried the 100 gr PT before but didn't get great accuracy in the 260. Ironically they shot great out of a 264 Win Mag with a very long throat so I do know the bullets can be accurate. Tough little slug though, it is worth a try in her 260.
 
The 260 Remington can do a lot more than many people think. What the cartridge lacks in velocity, it makes up for in trajectory and penetration. My fiancé uses this cartridge for deer hunting and found the recoil very tolerable. The recipe: Nosler brass, WLR primer, 43g IMR 4350 120gr bt. I know that my fiancé's daughters are able to handle this load without any complaining.

I load 44.5 grs H4350 with a 120 gr NBT for 2750 fps from a 20" barrel achieving MOA. However, this is close to a full power load and you might drop 2-3 grains powder as a starting load for your daughter
 
That sounds like a great little round for your daughter. Very cool that she likes to tag along with dad in the outdoors. Hopefully she'll get something soon hunting and will have a great experience and want to do it again. What good is this forum without pictures!

It looks like imr 4350 is the go to powder, It will be a while before I get started on this I need glass and a few other things. I can only do one thing at a time right now. I will post pix when its done.

Very neat gift for your daughter. I built a 260 for my 13 year old grandson. He loves the rifle and shoots it well. My girls never hunted with me, but they sure did wade a lot of rivers pursuing trout and Dolly Varden with their dad. Very neat picture you've posted.
 
My daughter has been shooting a 260 for several years now and has taken some really nice deer with it. She started out with a model 7 and is now shooting a Rem 700 that I bought her about six months ago. All the deer she's taken has been with the Sierra 120gr PH but I'm hoping to work with the 120gr BT soon. I've had good results with IMR 4320, 4064, and RL19 and achieved some really good accuracy with IMR4895 which is what we've been using lately.
I've actually never even tried 4350 but I may when I start working with the BT. I also see in the Nosler data that some really good speeds were achieved using H414 with the 120gr BT so i also plan to try that as well. The 260 is a deer stopper for sure.
 
It seems like there is a big gap in bullet weight in 6.5, why is there nothing in a 110 or 115 seems like a 110 NAB or Partition would be a screamer? Hello Nosler?

I have found that Reloader 17 is an awesome powder in the 260 rem, been using it under the 120 BT and the 125 Partition. I have the newer 700 with the 1-8 twist. It also shoots well from the ruger hawkeye. Smoked a big buck this year with the R17 125 Partition this year.
 
Thanks for all the good data, any #'s for 100 gr npt? I am excited to put this one together. It is going to be fun for me as well.

I have found that 24gr of SR 4759 will push a 120gr bullet along at about 2100fps from a 20" barrel. That should be a good starter load for your daughter.

I downloaded the reduced load data from Hodgdon I am going to see how it thumps and go from there.
