What is up with Northfork bullets?

Have they lost their minds with the pricing?
Example: 200 gr 308 for 50

North Fork $71.99

Speer Grand slam 34.99

Nosler PT 37.99

Nosler AB 29.99

Swift A frame 52.99

Barnes TSX 38.99

Not only that but they have the BC of a brick to boot!

I got the last two packages of 200 grain AB at SPS the other day, for I think $16.95.

I was hoping to try the 140 gr North Fork in my 264 WM but at those prices it will likely never happen, would have made a great elk and moose load though. If they were more reasonably priced I would have probably tried some in my 35 Whelen and 375 Ruger as well, thankfully Accubonds work well in those guns so there really isn't a big push to try something else.

A buddy of mine used them in his 300 Bee. Good expansion and penetration but Back then they were 44 dollars for 50 not 71.00
Anyway I thought is was counter productive since he was trying to build a long range Elk load with semi spitzers.

They do seem pricey. Certainly, here in Canada, we pay enough just to shoot Noslers.

As you all know I have been shooting the Nosler PT since the early 60's. I am not much for experimenting. They work, have always worked so I use them for almost everything. I do have a box of A-frame, a few Berger and Barnes, and a limited amout of AB's, but for my primary hunting riflles, the PT is always up front.

Now theres an old hunter that knows the old way still works!

I also comply, as do so many of us!

If I had to choose ONE for all of my hunting needs and could only use one, it would be the Partition. Northfork bullets cost a lot to manufacture because of their process and man hours needed to get the job done, great bullet but I think they will price themselves out of the market. As much as I like how they perform which they are awesome indeed, I just can't afford them for the amount of shooting I do each year to practice with, to check my already existing loads and then to sight in and check my sight in at different distances.

I know what you mean Fotis. The Semi Spitzer part doesn't bother me too much, but I can't tell you the number of times I have had them in my cart and chickened out.

I do like their 458 caliber bullets. They have a 300 grain bullet that would be a good replacement for the 300 grain PT.

I have a box of 350 grain 458 bullets, but I have been too chicken to try them cause if they shoot well, I will have to take a loan out to run them!

They do have an excellent reputation for hunting though. I like how they work, but they don't seem any better than a PT does.

Candidly, that is what I'm paying for 9.3mm A-Frames (300 grain and 286 grain) here in Canada. However, I'm loath to spend a lot more on the Northfork (as I would by the time they got to northern BC), though I would enjoy trying them at some point.

Hate to say it, but most industries with a strong contingent of more money than sense types, have one vendor that is stupidly expensive in no sort of proportion to the actual value of their product. And a small, but serious spending segment of the market, will buy it because the cost drives perceived value.

They must be thinking 2x the price of Nosler must make them better than a Nosler PT.
FWIW, my team colors are Black and Gold.

Fotis, If you remember correctly that was the SBGM and I in fact was trying to make a light weight elk hunting rig, not a long range rig. At any rate, I tried every bullet on the planet and that tomato stake wouldn't shoot any of them. :)

Fotis, those 200 gr 308's you mentioned cost $81.00 here and the 286 gr 9.3 mm bullets DrMike mentioned cost $89.00.

Wow! I would hate to think what factory loaded ammo would go for if it were available.

For sure, you don't want to ask. It can be prohibitive. Fortunately, we have "free" healthcare to compensate (and taxes high enough to pay for it).

I stand corrected Tim but either way anytime you build a 300 Bee or 300 RUM load with a 200 grain bullet it needs to have LR capability at least in my mind.

Anyway you gonna try them in your 338 RUM?

Fotis, I agree and no I will not be trying them in the 338 RUM. I'm shooting the 225 AB for now.
