ran across a remington 600 mohawk in .308 for sale. wondering what is an attainable velocity with 150 grain handloads, ballpark figure of course? i was thinking maybe 2700fps.
Hodgdon has published some interesting .308 data for 15" single-shot pistols:
They list several pretty impressive loads using the 150 gr Nosler BT:
Varget, min 44 @ 2522, max 47 @ 2675
H4895, min 43 @ 2478, max 45.5 @ 2649
That's from a mere 15" barrel. I've got three .308's, one with a 20" barrel. Never have bothered to chronograph any loads from it, but it shoots fine at 200 & 300 yards.

I would have said 2700-2750 but Pop's Quick Load beat me to the punch.
That rifle will make for a dandy deer slayer. Would also be a great bear gun with 180 gr bullets.
Does the rifle have the barrel rib and shark fin front sight?
no it doesn't. its in great shape and supposedly only been fires about 50 times. still not sure about getting it. would like a .243 or .6mm for the kids, but i can download the .308 and load it fullbore later on i guess.

I have like that. Nice and light and handy. Excellent accuracy, even with a 2 power scout scope it
can get a few 3 shot groups at 1/2 inch. I use a 1 inch orange stickon bull to be able to see at 100 yards.
However this load is slow but mild.
49 grains w760 2500 fps with a 150 grain bal tip or AccuBond.
Got to 2700 with flat primers using varget at max load, but accuracy was
2.5" @ 100 yards.
An excellent reduced load is 115 grain lasercast bullet for the 32-20
sized to .309" with 14-16 grains of SR4759. Hits golf balls at 50 yards.
I have some experience with short barrelled compacts! Here is a good rule of thumb, but it is not absolute until a chrono is used!.....For identical loads, deduct in the area of 15 to 30 fps. in velocity for every inch of barrel length lost!.......An 18.5" vs. a 24" tube should result in a loss of between 82.5 fps. up to 165 fps. If you can get a good deal on that 308, then go for it!!..........Compacts are wonderful in the field!!
