Time to change media in my tumbler. Been using corn cob media for years and it last a long time and does a passable job. However, I like shiny cartridges. They make me smile. What can I use that will give me shiny cases out of the tumbler?

G'Day Fella's,

Roysclockgun, there is the traditional Walnut Shell and as you mention Corn Cob media.
I add a Lyman product to the Walnut Shell media, that is some kind of polish!

Then of course, there is the latest thing "Stainless Steel Pins" (available from Sinclair Int'l)!
It is expensive but apparently it cleans both the Inside and outside of the cases!!!

Hope that helps

Happy New Year and all the best for 2013!!!
Doh!

Nothing wrong with corn cob, maybe throw in some Flitz or other polishing compound to really get them sparkling.

Walnut media for tarnished cases. They come out a darker hue, and it does more effectively address tarnish. Corncob media gives a brighter shine and a lighter hue, but it will not truly address tarnished brass or extremely dirty brass.

+1,,, and if they are not coming out shiney with treated CC media, then the teatment part is out lived it's usefulness. But like AzDak said, can be retreated.

As quiet or quieter than the Lyman tumblers. Remember, it is filled with water (and detergent), plus the rubberized lining mutes the media movement.

I have used Walnut when the cases have been severly tarnished, but have switched the media to the corn cob to finish them further to a shiney finish. I also started with the treated corn cob media and used the additive after a while. Other than that I have not see an animal that wanted a case more shiney than that. None of my rifles object to them only being corn cob shiney either. Lol. I never really figured that there would be any other way to get them cleaner than the corn cob media. JMO

I have the Lyman additive to add to the corn cob media. Perhaps I have not been adding enough, or often enough. The tumler is a large Lyman drum and has been serving for many years now.

Yep. Much quieter than a usual tumbler, as all you hear is the motor, not the brass and media moving around inside like you do with a conventional tumbler.

Here are the ones I did last evening. Notice how clean they are inside as well (there is some brass staining from water spots inside).

Dr. Vette

That looks impressive.
I have been using a Vibra Tech for years with CC media.
Just might be time for an upgrade. I like clean shiny brass, it just shoots better.

I definitely want to give the stainless media a try at some point. I have a bunch of range (or desert) pickup brass for .45ACP/.40S&W/9mm that is very tarnished that I would like to shine up for easier retrieval after shooting.
