What rifle, bulllet, load do you have ready for this year?

Good luck with the AccuBond. That would be my general purpose do-all bullet but my M70 just doesnt like them. The Partition touches holes, go figure. I can live with that!

Gee thats to bad that you have to settle for the PT, Oh what misery !!!

No kidding! A danged PT! I gotta say, I always tend to look for the PT first and then try an AB if I can't get the PT. I am a little backward sometimes. Scotty

My ready to go rifles:

Rem 700 .338RUM for Elk 225 grain Partition wears a Zeiss Diavari 1.5 X 6

Kimber Montana .300WSM 180 grain Partition (back up rifle for Elk) Kahles 3 X 9

Rem 700 7-08 for Maine Deer Hunt 140 grain Partition Leupold 2.5 X 8

competitor arms 30.06 single shot pistol (cannon breech) Burris 2 X 7 (This is for when I need a lot of adventure in my life.) I can tell you with 165 grain partitions it drops deer like lightning.

I forgot about my two Model 94s in .356. One shoots 220 grain Speer FN and the other is shooting 250 grain Alaska Kodiaks. Either will work very well for moose and elk this fall. In fact, I've been stimulated to consider carrying one of these afield this Monday. Just may do that.

My Savage 111 in 7mm mag is still ready to go with 160ABs at about 2980fps sighted in at 200 yards with a Redfield 3x9x40 (new Leupold ones). This is for elk.

For deer I'm using my Winchester X150 Muzzle loader with XS sights on it again. Hate the rifle, but once I put those sights on it I can tollerate it now.

I'm still struggling at getting my Tikka T3 stainless with 3.5x10x40 Leupold to shoot like I want it too. I have some rounds at different COLs to go try now using 180 Accubonds. Was talking to a friend of mine's neighbor who was telling me that lightweight rifles can be hard to shoot accurately which makes sense and may be my issue, I don't know. But this will more than likely be

Corey

Corey, on your last rifle, I'd suggest finding a promising powder/bullet combo seated to book length and then adust your COL as your last step. That may save yourself from more agrivation. What cartridge are you working with?

Any of your 35's would suffice but either of these offer the most class.

Scotty, I do get about 3k from this load in the 7mm Mag. I jsut hope that the load will shoot as well with the AB's as it does with the PT's. We will find out in the next few days though.

CsC, these rifles have taken quite a few mulies, elk, black bear and grizzly. They still shoot very well, but I don't carry them afield as much. That probably needs to change. They are quick handling and hard-hitting. I've never had game slip away from a hit with these rifles.

That would be pretty cool as well Mike. I am really thinking of breaking out the 358 Win this year too. It has been babied for way to long.

Charlie, I would probably bet you will do great with the 7mm AB's. Haven't seen many rifles that didn't like them alot. I have three boxes of 160gr PT's and 3 of the 175gr PT's for the 7mm, but being as the AB's are shooting so well, I can't mess with it. Maybe after season I will mess with the 175gr PT's again. I was getting mid 2900's with the Hornady 175's, so I would think the PT's at around 2900 would be a pretty good heavy rifle that would rival most of the 300 mags. Scotty

358Win, BLR, VX-III 2.5-8x36, 225gr SGK over 46gr IMR-3031

270Win, Sportsman 78, 4200 Elite 3-9x40, 140NAB over 58gr H-4831SC

30-06, 700BDL, 4200 Elite 3-9x40, 165gr NP over 51.5gr IMR-4064

22-250, Encore Rifle, Buckmaster 4-14x40, 52gr Speer JHP over 35.5gr Varget

209x50 M/L, Encore, Viper 2-7x32, 240gr XTP over 110gr Blackhorn 209

I will be carrying the BLR everywhere while my son is very enamored with the .270 and has already claimed it when I retire. The -06 is the back-up rifle and rightly so. I wouldn't be caught dead carrying an -06 in the woods. I do have two deer loads for the 22-250 but I'm afraid to post them and derail this thread.

CC, that 52gr Speer is one of the best 22-250 bullets EVER in my book! I used that same load for a very long time and it was awesome on crows, yotes, and even deer over an orchard during winter cull permits. Just loved that bullet. Might need to give it a try again. Very underrated bullet. Scotty

I get equivalent accuracy with 50 & 55 gr VMax and 55gr Blitzkings but the Speer has never splashed on a yote shoulder while the others have. I enjoy hunting crows with that rig. POOF!!

I just worked up a 53gr TSX load that also looks promising. It will probably replace the 60gr NP, which is so-so thru my Encore, for a back-up deer load. I want to try the NBT next.

I only use the 7mm Mag as a long range deer rifle anyway. I have a couple .338 caliber rifles for anything larger, like elk.

Encore Pro Hunter 280 Rem 140gr AccuBond for deer and bears.

300 WSM 180 gr AccuBond for Elk, Moose, Bears and other critters that roam the woods.

444 Marlin 265 gr Hornady Interlock FP, Backup rifle for every hunt I go on.

Encore Endeaver ML 110 gr Blackhorn 209, 250 gr Hornady SST Sabot.

Yotes will be 55 gr NBT out of the .243 with a few 105 Amax thrown in there.
My wife will be shooting the 140 BT out of the 280 AI for her doe tag, and the 140 ET for her elk.
I'll be shooting the 140 Bt out of the 280 AI for my buck tag.
And for elk I'll be pushing around a Horn. Great plains .50 chunk of lead out of my muzzle loader. This will be my first attempt at elk with a true smoke poll. Pretty pumped!

I guess I did ask about the year so for predators, I will be using Encore rifles in 22 Hornet 3-9x40 Bushnell Trophy with 45 Hornady "Hornet" SP set up for night hunting and a 22-250 2.5-10x50 4200 Elite with 60 Hornady HP.

Well, I think the 338RUM using 250ABs will be the primary rifle, with the 7RUM using 150ETs as the alternate. Going after moose, elk, muley, and bear.

I'm going on a doe cull in mid-Sept, and hunting the regular deer season in mid-Nov. My 257 Roy is going out to Colorado w/ my Aunt to help fill a cow tag, too. There'll be a lot of 'yote hunting in there, too.

For the first hunt I'm planning to bring out the 6-250 referenced here ( viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16263 ) loaded w/ 90 gr Speer Hot Cors. That load hits same POI as my 60 gr Sierra HP & 75 gr Hornady HP loads for 'chucks, crows, and 'yotes, respectively.

For deer I'm planning to carry my old sporterized SC 03-A3 loaded w/ 200 gr Speer semi-spitzers, as well as my Savage 110 338-06 AI. The barrel for the latter hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know what I'll load in that. If I don't have something put together for that I'll pull out the ole standby Mauser 1996 straight-pull in '06 and run 168 gr NBTs charged by RS-Hunter.

As most of you know, my aunt will be "field testing" the 100 gr ETip over RL22 which was covered here ( viewtopic.php?t=16008 ) on cow elk through my new (to me) Vangard chambered to 257 Roy.

I LOVE this pre-season preparation!!!!!
