Anyone shooting this combo? Looking to have a new tube put on my M70 and trying to decide between 1:12 and 1:14.

I shoot a lot of cast, and the 1:14 is more forgiving with cast, but I want to be able to stabilize the 225 AccuBond. According to the Berger Twist Calculator it is right on the line.

Any input would be appreciated.

I see no reason why the 1-14" won't stabilize a 225gr AB. I went with a 1-12" because everyone said that it would be better for heavy for caliber bullets like the 300gr Woodleigh. The 1-14" is great for lead because it puts less stress on the bullet or that is what I've read. If I were to rebarrel one of my 35Whelens I think I would go with the 1-14" since I really don't think I have a need for shooting a 300gr bullet since I've seen what a225gr will do.

I have Kreiger CM 1/14 twist @ 24" on 35 WhelenAI and shooting 225gr AB also 225gr TSX and using 225GR AB for hunting. Gunsmith talked to Kreiger about bullets and I plan to stay 225gr to 250gr. I did run Berger Twist Calculator and Ballistic table after I got my hunting loads and SG was good.

The Woodleigh is actually shorter than the AB, so it should work for both, if it works at all.

I've got a 16 twist Remington. It does really well with the 225 AB.

Saying that, unless you're shooting a ton of cast the 12 twist is great insurance for the .358 hunting Bullets.

I'll shoot way more cast than anything else. My other Whelen is a 1:12, so I do have my bases covered. I cast my own, so the cast takes priority. I have never even fired a jacketed bullet from the 1:12.

Just checked my bill for my RMR 35 Whelen & I have a 24" PacNor barrel with 1-14 twist. I also shoot 225gr. ABs out of it.
I am using RL15 with Remington brass.

Blessings,
Dan

I'd say that works. Thanks!
