My son and I met two of our friends at the range this afternoon. We're going for whitetail this weekend, here in Washington State. I was too doggone worn out to bother shooting, so I coached, adjusted scopes, and used the heck out of the spotting scope. It was fun.

My son had never seen an actual suppressed rifle in action before, and is hamming it up here a bit with Mike's suppressed Savage. Yes, that's a U.S. Optics scope on the rifle. And yes, the whole package shoots pretty doggone well. Mike is using 150 grain Federal Fusion ammo, and is sighted-in at 200 yards. The big rifle is virtually recoil free, and shoots the Federal 150's very well.

My son John took a few shots with his good old 6mm Remington, and yes, once again the 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips are shooting quite well. Sorry, no new photos of the young man and his 6mm Remington.

Dani had her .308 Sako, and impressed us all by stacking two shots in essentially the same hole, and one less than an inch away, at 200 yards! She handles the lightweight little rifle well. I handloaded the ammo, using 125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips and RL-15. Her rifle is sighted in at 200 and if she gets a chance at a buck, I think he's in serious trouble.

Sorry, no photos of me or Mike. We're too big and ugly for general viewing anyway.

I did have to check and make sure that my son but Mike's Savage back in his car, not in our Jeep! I think a pair of .308's and a 6mm will do just fine. Will update after this weekend's whitetail hunt.

Sounds as if you are in for a great hunt, Guy. We're all pulling for the guide and those who will be looking to tag out.

Guy wishing you & your family the best if luck.
Looking forward to your photos & a good story or 2 :)
Remember have Fun, Shoot straight & most of all be safe!!

Blessings,
Dan

Guy, good luck with those whitetails. We don't get to hunt them much here in Washington. Almost like exotic hunting!

Thanks guys. Interesting mix of rifles.

Young John has selected his good old 6mm Rem 700 BDL, with a 3.5-10x Leupold & 95 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. That was the first rifle he ever used on deer. The past couple of years he's been using a .30-06, but he still likes the 6mm as well.

D has her new Sako in .308 Win, with a 3-9x Leupold & 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. For a lightweight hunting rifle, that thing shoots amazingly well. Her last group yesterday was about an inch, at 200 yards! Perfectly zeroed at 200 yards. I've told her it must be the coaching and the ammo I loaded for her. Can't be that she's just one heck of a rifle shot, with a good rifle.

M has his new Savage Tacticool Rifle (very heavy!) suppressed, topped with a U.S. Optics scope and using 150 gr Federal factory ammo. He's hunting from a blind, so the weight of the rifle shouldn't be a problem.

I'm more interested in helping them all get on bucks than in tagging one myself, but if I get to do a little hunting, I'll likely use my little .30-30 Marlin/Glenfield, with a 2.5x Leupold and 170 gr Federal factory ammo. Normally I use handloads, but have had one heck of a time finding suitable bullets for the .30-30 this year. No problem finding factory ammo for it though!

It should be a fun hunt. My son has really gotten into this whole November whitetail hunt. He's not taken any giant bucks, but he likes hunting the cooler weather, likes seeing all the deer that we get to watch, and likes hunting the pre-rut conditions we get here in November.

Sometimes we see a bear on this hunt. I'll have to remind him that he already used that tag!

Joe - thanks, but we hunted last weekend!

Three of us uncased our rifles and I hauled three whitetail bucks home in the back of my Jeep. Yes it was a little crowded back there!

I never got around to taking my rifle out of the case, and with three deer hanging, decided we had plenty of venison. Mike, his wife Dani, and my son John all got their bucks. First time experience for both Mike & Dani. It was a good hunt. Mike did NOT use that huge & heavy Savage rifle. Too big for what we were doing. It is however, great at the rifle range.

Regards, Guy
