Anyone using just wipe-out as a do all cleaner, I just went thru my first can and cleaned 5 rifles, still on the fence about it's performance. what are you guys finding?
I use it and it is the only thing I use except for a light coating of Break Free CLP afterwards.
But I am of the opinion that you can get a rifle barrel too clean
IOW IMO there are minute cracks and pits that are smoothed over by correspondingly small deposits of copper that need to stay filled so I do an 80 to 90% cleaning and prevent rusting and pitting with the light coating of CLP
Others may disagree but I went through a phase of cleaning to the bare metal and this method of Wipe Out and light oil works best for me. My guns that need fouling shots will only need 1 or 2 and some guns do not need fouling shots at all
I have used Wipe-Out for years and have no negative issues with it. Like Woods mentioned, one can get a barrel too clean to shoot well. All my rifles prefer some fouling in the barrel to shoot with any consistency. When I use Wipe-Out, it's either because I'm selling a rifle, or my load development has stalled, and I'm starting over from square one.
Its all I use. I let it sit overnite and it's amazing what all comes out. The only problem I have is that I have to order it as I never see it in the stores.
Its all I use cant say one way or the other if its better than any other. My uncle says he knows an Ex olympic shooter and coach and that was all he used period. One thing I will say, it is no odor so it keeps me outa trouble with the wife....CL
I also use wipe-out and can see no reason to change. IMO it does a great job removing copper, no odor, and it's easy to use, does not take up half my day hanging around my rifle to clean the copper out.
Sounds like i need to check this stuff out. I normally use butches bore shine and have been fairly happy with it, but I'm always up for trying something better!
I have just purchased a can. Never have used it, but watched a video and was impressed. I am a little stumped as to how I will run it through my 1970 Browning BLR. I am not striping it down to remove the bolt to access. How does one go about running a patch thru to clean out? I was thinking I could carefully push it through from the muzzle towards action and have it discharge out bottom of mag space. Any suggestions from someone who used it on a lever action?
