Who makes a 6.5X55 modern rifle?

If I had the money to be throwing around, that 1885 in 6.5x55 is the exact rifle I would be ordering. Been drooling over the idea of one for quite awhile now...

A Tikka would be nice, too. As would a Forbes if they really do end up chambering them.

Or a M70 FW Classic like this.

That is just cruel, Jake.

Without a doubt. I am holding out that Winchester will eventually offer them in their FWT's again.

The Winchesters are handsome and quality. The problem is when Jake displays one that is not commonly available and I slobber all over my keyboard wishing and dreaming of owning one so chambered.

Sounds like your next build. You do need a new moose gun!

I have two in the works now and one in the planning stage (though I have accumulated brass and dies). Yeah, the last one is already blooded.

Well, I stumbled on a Rem 721 with a pitted bore and cracked stock but good metal in fine working order. Traded some maple syrup, firewood and some 9mm ammo for it so it looks like I now have a fine donor action for a build.

Nice thing with that 721 action, I'll be able to run the COL long and load full house 6.5 SE loads so she should really sing when I'm done.

This is true, you should be able to run these 6.5 rounds long in this action, just like I do with my .257 Roberts in the full length Browning FN action.

Sounds like a really great trade that's awesome that you were able to trade some ammo, maple syrup and firewood for it :) You should be able to find a great stock for it pretty easy and finding a barrel shouldn't be hard either. It will be a fun project for you to put together. I had great loads in 6.5x55 with H 4831 sc, IMR 4350 and IMR 7828 ssc with a few different 140 gr bullets.

My best loads were with IMR 4350 in the 6.5x55, Jake. My rifle is still very accurate as well with 125 gr Partitions.

Man, that sounds like a very cool builder for sure! Good luck and let us know what you do.

IMR 4350 with a 140 gr BTHP is the sweet spot with my M96 military swede. May look into VN560 to up the vel. with the new rifle when I get time to put it all together.

I have decided that I need to shot one rifle a lot to get consistent trigger time.

I chose my Tikka 6.5 Swede. Very accurate and easy to shot well.

Ordered a box of 1000 6.5 123 gr Custom Comp bullets from SPS.

Tikka 6.5 Swede are hard to find, but I certainly enjoy mine.

...looks like Thompson Center is offering the Venture in 6.5X55 this year, action's similar to the Tikka T3, reviews are pretty good.

Well I made a huge mistake. I decided to see how the 721 30-06 shoots just for fun. Drilled, brass pinned and epoxied the small stock crack and cleaned the bore with Sweets 7.62. Pitting turned out to be merely fossilized fouling. Cleaned up pretty good other than some throat erosion. This one appears to have fired a lot of rounds. The stripper clip guide shows a lot of finish wear and you can see where an aperture sight was fitted. I'm guessing somebody shot NRA high power with this one at one time. Ran some polishing compound on the crown to clean up a couple small nicks. Slapped an old cheap 3X9 on it and ran a couple of 5 shot groups with HXP surplus. The damn thing shot 2 groups at around 1.5." That's on par with how match tweaked Garands and Sprgflds shoot this ammo. Disassembly revealed that it was glass bedded (very well) some time ago and some trigger work was done to it. Since it's against my religion to chop up a perfectly good rifle that shoots well, I guess this one will be trade material towards what I really want in the end. Somebody should be very happy with the 30-06 they end up with. The neighbor kid where I hunt deer was talking about wanting a bolt action rifle last year, maybe I'll talk to his dad this summer about a graduation present for junior. Never hurts to play good politics with the hunting neighbors.

You never shoot the donor. This happens all the time. Actually, I can think of worse things than to find that a donor shoots well.
