To make my life more difficult I guess!

Like I do not have enough irons on the fire already!

Hmm maybe the 700V in 6mm AI 40*?

It would be a really neat cartridge Fotis and for sure not every kid on the block would have one! :p It is something special just like the 6mm Remington is anyway, and you know how much you love that one. You want it because it would be an antelope laser and it would be a lot of fun! That is a very nice looking Remington by the way. I say go for it.

Fotis,

There is a lot of cool factor with an AI.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If you want a Ackley, go with a 250-3000 Acklely Improved. Higest percentage of improvement for all the Ackley's based on what Ive read and an Ackley favorite. A 110AB at @ 2900 aint no slouch. CL (C'mon - what did ya expect? :) ?) CL

Cause then you can spend money to get new dies!

Actually the Lee collet dies work well on both!

the 6mm remington is one of the better improved cases out there. i have had two of them in the past. i think you will like it despite the cost of the new dies, or the used dies you may find.

Why, heck who knows. Wildcats can just be fun to mess with.

I used to own a 240 Page Souper Pooper a LONG time ago. It was fun and plenty fast. And I messed with a 6-284 for a while, faster yet, but a little bit of a pain to make cases for. If you tried to neck 284 brass down to 6mm you would have some losses, had to use a .257 die as the first step, then everything went fine.

Heck, my current 6mm Remington is sort of wildcat in that it has a tight neck. I just bought 500 new Winchester cases when I had the gun built and turned them all on the gunsmiths drill press.
One time deal, I will not ever need more cases than that.

If you want a wildcat, go for it. Ackley had some good ideas, and some not so good.

WOW! Not one pitch for the 280AI? Maybe I missed some posts...

I haven't caught the AI bug yet. Seems like more work and I have plenty enough to do without searching for an additional 5% performance increase. YMMV.

edit - I've educated myself. This thread got the juices flowing and after some research I see that the increase in performance is more along the lines of 5-13%. Not changing my line of thought but it does interest me more.

Who the hell knows. I know I like them and I have two of them.

I don't have an Ackley yet, but man, they are some cool looking cartridges and that counts for something, right?

The 6mm Ackley is the one I have always thought I would like to have. After seeing how well Brian's 243 AI does with the 105's, it has some more appeal.

The three Ackleys I'm interested in are the .223, .243, and .280 (and I'm not sure the .280 Counts anymore). The 6mm would probably be pretty cool, as I think you might gain more case capacity than the .243. I don't think a 700 has enough mag space to make it worthwhile, but an M70 might.

My reasons differ between cartridges... .223 for reduced case trimming, .243 for reduced throat erosion, 6mm for capacity, .280 for increased chamber pressure.

Why AI?

1. Less case trimming
2. Increase in velocity by 100-200 FPS
3. Big time cool factor!!!

Because they're COOL!! They perform, they reduce case work and they look and are FAAAAAST! I have two and soon a third. I run a 22-250AI, did it originally to reduce case trimming - It works. I also run a 257RAI and it is sweetheart to shoot. The next one up is the 280AI. Saw a cool thread on another forum about the 264-280AI round... Who knows. I'd be all over a 6mmAI if I didn't already have 6-284 screamer.
I say go for it! If you can find a way to fireform cases in your backyard - even better!

Boy Brian that .243 sure cleans up nice! Never seen a change like that. From Rosie O'Donnell to Kim Kardashian with just a little shoulder and neck work. :p That 243 AI is pretty darn sweet looking. And talk about shoot! Wow.
