Why is anyone getting (or has gotten) a 26 Nosler

Not too interested in a 26 Nosler since I have a 257 Wby.
BUT... If they come out with a 7mm Nosler based on the same case I would be very tempted to have the current 7mm Rem Mag re-barreled/re-chambered.

Be the first in your neighbourhood; get the 7 RM rebarrelled now! We'll help you work up loads.

This is what I'm working on. A 7mmx 26 Nosler. I have all the parts just gathering funds to put it all together. I'm expecting performance between a 7STW and 7RUM. I want to run the 175gr ABLR. I'm hoping to have Quickload by then but if I don't; I'll be relying on the largeness of the members here to get me on the right track.

Don't doubt that you'll find many willing helpers, Scott.

Pac-Nor has 26 Nosler available in their barrels.
The 7X26 Nosler sounds interesting.

I think the solution for we 257 Roy fans is to talk someone into making a long/heavy .257 bullet. The Bee has the freebore to do it. Imagine about 130 grainer ...

Same company I mentioned above has 1 in 8 and 1 in 9 twist available in .257.
One of those would probably stabilize a long 130.

Maybe a 1 in 8 but I was thinking a 1 in 7 off the top of my head.

What I find annoying is the lack of ammo for a cartridge that was introduced at the 2014 SHOT show. I understand one can reload but it kinds of defeats the purpose of marketing if I wanted one and couldn't shoot it.

I find the ballistics compelling so I'd love to toy with one but buying one with two offerings that are not in stock and cannot be backordered in less than 9 months from the announcement makes me think this could be another 30 T/C.

I'm a huge Nosler fan BTW (own a M48), so don't take this as hate but someone lost the recipe on this round. There should be stock on hand when you release something like a new cartridge. I'd burn the 40 rounds that come with a new 48 the first day on the range. Then what?

Sign me up. I have a 7mm mag M70 just waiting to get converted!

Rem Jim and Partisan: I'm with you guys on the merits of a 257 Wby, which I have and really appreciate.

The reported performance of the 26 Nosler is nothing new. A recent on-line article in Field & Stream stated the Nosler factory ammo and handloads produced a run-of-the-mill muzzle velocity of 3160 ft/sec with the 140 grain bullet. That is far from 3300 ft/sec as Nosler touted for the same load.

This performance is nothing new to the hunting world. It comes in a fine looking rifle that will probably shoot just as accurately as other production rifles costing more or less than $1,600. Yes, we can be the first to have it in camp because we all love new stuff, but this rifle sure doesn't appear to be the ground breaker Nosler touts it to be.

What cracks me about about the 26 Nosler article is I am getting the same reported speed out of a custom built 280, burning a whole lot less powder with each shot AND without spending $1,600 for the rifle.

I like that notion...

I for one have no interest in it. I am & Big Fan of the .264 Win Mag & if it's to far for this, I will get closer. I also don't know if this Caliber will survive. The Jury is still out & Time will tell.

Huh. I've seen 3225 fps from factory 140 gr 7mm Rem mag ammo...

I don't have a .26 cal anything, just .25's and used to have .28's, so I've sort of got it surrounded. Still, it appears to be an interesting cartridge. Waiting for more info as more guys try it out. Always open for new ideas, and I do like flat-shooting, accurate rifles...

Let's see, more so why wouldn't you want one?? When you weight all the positive's I don't see a negative here. I don't have one but the ballistics speak for themselves. I have been intriged by the 6.5 caliber for sometime now. My hunting partner and his Family have several 264 Win Mags and have witnessed them shoot several Elk. It is a proven Killer. They shoot 140 grain bullets.

Good job Nosler in creating the 26 Nosler. It is a success and will continue to be a success.

My new "sexy" is a used marlin 3030 that's driving tacks at 100yds. Got a 2-7 ballistic plex on it and want to stretch it to 200-300 just for giggles.
Everyone else is playing w/lazer beam calibers. I must be getting old.....I'm as exciting as an old pair of shoes!

There is alot of fun in shooting the older rounds and just plain having fun.. I love to shoot the old 348, 30-30 and 35 Rem a bunch. All three are super hunting rounds in my opinion.

26 Nosler brass is $99.00 Plus Tax for 25 at Grouse River Sporting up here in Canada ! Thats over 4.00 each WTH ! :? RJ

My 264 has a 28 inch barrel and launches 130 NABs at 3350 fps.
130 Berger's were going 3420 ten feet from the muzzle.

About to start load development with 140 NABs and I'm betting I can get to 3200 plus easily.

To me the gain in velocity isn't worth the cost.

Howard

You know, if an accurate, high BC bullet is booted out of a quality barrel at goodly velocity.... Good things are bound to happen downrange.
