Our 9 day season ended today but I did not get to hunt. For the first time in 19 years, dad and I both shot our bucks on opening day. I shot mine 2 minutes into the season. It came across a field towards my dad and I. I was waiting for him to shoot but he did not do it fast enough. The 210 PT from my 338WM did the job with a 125 yard shot. Dad shot his 7pt at 10:15 with his Remington 700 Mountain Rifle. He uses factory Fusion ammo, but I am going to play with some reloads this summer. It was a quick hunt but it worked out well. We did make a few drives later in the week with a small group of guys but we did not get any more shots. The numbers in WI are down again this year. I hope we have an easy winter for them.

Congratulations on two nice bucks.
The 338 210 gr PT works well. ;)

Congratulations on your shortened season. There are times when I really appreciate such abbreviated seasons.

Congrats on both bucks, what caliber is your dad using? That stainless laminate of his looks very nice. The 210 gr Partition in your 338 WM is one of the all time great classic loads IMO.

Very awesome WT! I Am so happy you were able to zap a buck with the 210 out of your 338. Congrats to your pops as well.

Dad's rifle is a 30-06. It is a very nice rifle that he is very proud of. My goal is to snag it for the summer and work up a load for it but he will not let it out of the house unless it is in his hands.

"The 210 PT from my 338WM"

Nice... That ought to be enough rifle for whitetail!

Congratulations - and you know - that is a good photo. I'd think that blown up and framed that could be a pretty cool Christmas present for your father... Just thinking...

Regards, Guy

Nice pictures, looked like a dry day. Very nice looking bucks, and the first day makes it special also. How big is a young buck like that in Wi? I know that the Whitetail vary greatly in size, from the south to the north. Again thanks for sharing.

I would guess the average 1.5 year old deer shot in farm country in northern WI would dress out from 110-130 pounds. A deer from county land where there is little for ag would weigh 100-120 pounds. An average doe around here is 100-130 pounds. A nice 3.5 year old will go 160-190. The .338 is a little over kill but I got it for a good deal and wanted the deer on this land to drop close to where they were hit. I like the picture idea.
