Winchester Lovers

For those who can't live without an Ultramag, this might be the rifle to consider. Until the first one was posted on this forum, I wasn't even aware that Winchester chambered this cartridge in one of their rifles.

Dang it! My timing is all wrong on rifles! I looked for one and gave up. Order the Montana and now look at this Winchester!

Brian,

It can always be rechambered to 338 RUM, or 375 RUM, or 7mm RUM.

Doc,

I wanted another RUM like the 338 or 375 for big stuff but I'm happy using the 200 AB in the 300. Just wish Nosler would make the 30 cal AB in 220gr or 240gr. The 7mm RUM with the 140 AB sounds interesting.

Bill,

Guess we will see in a few weeks?

Interestingly enough, most of the 7RUMs I've worked with were builds with 168 grain Berger VLDs. Because of television productions, that is the "go to" bullet for many who are shooting this cartridge. The accuracy can be very impressive with the 7mm RUM, however. I believe it begs for a 160 grain AB.

That 7RUM is a beast. I know it would be pretty fearsome with 175gr A-Frames or PT's in the pipe. Wouldn't be much I wouldn't hunt!

Brian..... I am laughing pretty hard right now!!!!

Your Montana will be sweet though.

My buddy has one just like it. He got a smokin deal on it too. Bought it off a guy for around $500 I think. Its a shame though. He brags about shootin a 300RUM to people but little do they know, he only shoots the Power Lever 1 shells though it...

That is funny. I did break-in on a 300RUM last summer. I was handed a box of cartridges. When I pulled the trigger, I said to myself, "That thing is a pussycat. I don't know what all the fuss is about." When I popped the second box (level 3), I quickly realised that I hadn't paid much attention to what I was shooting, as all I was concerned about was putting some rounds downrange and cleaning between shots. Yeah, the full power got my attention as I dreamily pulled the trigger.

I have no desire to recieve that kind of abuse!

I would imagine that would get your attention!

I am anxious to see how the Montana shoots for Brian. Hope it is a tack driver.

DT, that is an excellent deal on that 300. With them being so limited, it is tough to find any of them for under a 1000 it seems.

Yeah, some of these rifles have a tendency to buck and snort a bit. Occasionally, I get surprised.

Stick a 240 match king in that bad boy... stoke it with 100 grains of US869... and make an appointment with a dentist... because you're going to need all of your fillings replaced.

Wow, I can imagine it has some recoil stoked like that...

Haha. I just got some 240 SMKs from Joel for punching paper and steel. Don't see myself using those in the Montana.

Snapped a couple pictures yesterday after polishing her a bit... sorry but I like to show her off ;)

Maurice

Maurice, your 375 is just awesome buddy.. One of the nicest I've seen..

Well thank you SJB358;). I love it to! Not for the purist fort sure. Does not wear a gorgeous piece of French Bastogne or English walnut... When I started the built I was targeting a working man's rifle, dependable and rugged, using quality components.

Thanks again for the comments.
Maurice

Maurice,

Handsome rifle, for sure. It will perform, without a doubt.
