Winchester model 70

What does everyone think about the winchester model 70? Because I found one in a 7mm wsm for $400 Thanks

I`ve no experiance with the new, but I`ve a couple of the old if that tells you anything :grin:

I like my Model 70's. You typically have to free float the barrels, and adjust the trigger. Overall I've had very good luck with mine.

For $400, I would like a M70 too.
Sounds like a good deal.
I have only had one, M70XTR in 243 Win. I should have never sold it, it was a tack driver!

I had a Mod 70 XTR in 300 Wby. It was the most consistantly accurate rifle I've ever owned. But I had to have stainless so I sold it.
If it's FN it's a real winner. If it's one of the shadow models of the 70 I'd ask about shooting it first. I sent mine back and they gave me a new one. Near the closing of their plant they had some barrel quality issues. That being said, I have a friend who has one who loves it and I love the new one they sent me. No matter what that's a good price and Winchester is honoring their guarentee and will replace it free if it has issues. Power wise you're right in there with the 7MM Rem. with a little less recoil, I hear.
I'd buy it if I was looking for a 7 Mag.

Well from all of your replies I guess I will be getting it here in the next few weeks I hope. What is the best load for this rifle? I also herd that the gun is so fast that the bullet has a hard time expanding properly because it is going so fast, is this true?

It has to be an old one.
The 7mm Short Mag has not been offered from the SC plant. Besides, $400.00 would be below cost on the new SC guns.

I own three of them.....all old plant rifles and I wouldn't trade/sale them for anything in the world!

I might be an old one I am not for sure I havent asked but the reason that I am getting it for $400 is because he is one of my good friends and he doesnt like the rifle anymore because he switched over to a 300 win mag and he said the 7mm wsm is to fast for what he wants

The 7mm WSM runs a 150 gr bullet 3200 fps, a 300 Win Mag drives a 150 3260 fps.

Sounds to me like your buddy is just looking for an excuse to sell it. Not haveing seen the rifle, it sounds like a good deal to me, especially if it comes with any extras...rings, mounts, dies ect. If you have a .270-.308 hole in your line up, and it's something you would use, I'd probably buy it.

Well I thought that I would be getting the rifle in the next few weeks, but it turns out that I will be getting it tonight because he told me that he wanted another 300 win mag. So I told him that I would trade him my 300 win mag in the remington model 710 and he said yes. So after I get the rifle tonight I will try to post some pictures. :grin:

Well update on the situation, I just traded my remington model 710 for the winchester model 70! :grin: The gun hasn't even had a whole box of shells through it and everything look awesome.

That's a Black Shadow. I recently bought one just like it....except in .270 short mag. Yes, you did get it below dealer cost.

Thank you! the scope that is on it right now is a eagle eye optics co 4-16x42 AO I have never heard of this brand of scope before. Are they any good or should I get another scope for it?
