I'm going on a migration muley hunt Oct 20-26 outside of Cody (8 miles from Yellowstone in fact) and was wondering what the weather is usually like that time of year?

I realize weather changes but I'm just looking for a general idea as in, can I pretty much count on snow and temps in the 30's for highs that time of year or will it possibly still be in the 40's - 50's for highs?

Thanks!

The typical conditions for Wyoming elk hunting are snow and cold.
30 degrees and a 30 mph wind is not uncommon. Last year we hunted in the Shirley's, which is south of Cody. On the day we arrived I clocked winds at 55 MPH. Two days later it was 70 degrees, and the following morning we had a foot of snow. We went from being worried about the meat being warm, to frozen solid overnight, but that what happens when you hunt at altitude.

Thanks for the reply! I am planning on having plenty of capilene/smartwool base layers and some good gortex and wool clothing with me.

I did find a website that gives historical weather information and for that same period of 2008 it was about 20-30 lows and 45-60 for highs.

Sounds like a typical Cheyenne winter day!

Well when I still lived in wyoming which was last year, I only lived 45 miles from cody (I lived in Byron), and the temperature was pretty hot and there was no snow what so ever during deer season. But remember it is wyoming and the weather changes very often.

I know what you mean Corbin. One year in the Windriver range, we didn't have a spot of snow. It was hot, and dry with temperatures in the 80's. The elk were all as high up as they could go, and I was very happy to have a florescent orange T-shirt.
