Yeah, But Will They Shoot?

It snowed heavily today. So, I put off shooting. I trust I'll be able to get out by Wednesday next week to pop a few caps. I promise that I'll post results as soon as I have them.

I scoped the Remington LSS 280 this morning. Here are a couple of pics of the scoped rifle.

I have several boxes of old ammo lying around for break-in and initial testing before I get to handloading. We are supposed to see the jetstream move eastward by Wednesday, so I should be able to get out to the range by the end of the week. This should be fun.

Jim, I was wrong about the J-Lock. This one doesn't have it. Whew! This is one less thing I will need to worry about. I may find it necessary to relieve the barrel channel and glass bed it, but I'll wait until I see how it shoots. The gunsmith lightened the trigger, so now all I need is to get to the range and begin testing these two rifles.

Oh Doc, I am absolutely swooning over that rig... LSS, euroglass, and a .280 to boot.

CL, I anticipate that she'll shoot. Mark, my other 280 (Featherweight) will shoot to 0.25 inch almost any 139/140 grain bullet I shoot in it. It shoots 150/154/160/162 grain bullets acceptably, but it just delights in 140s. Thus, I feed it 140 grain PTs or 140 grain BSTs or even 139 grain Hornady SPs. I intend to focus on 150 to 160 grain bullets in this particular rifle. The cartridges included in the pics are some factory ammunition I had lying around (150 PTs, 150 BSTs and 160 FSs). My intention is to use these up to break the rifle in and then get down to serious business.

Mike -
very nice looking rifles..."purty" only goes so far, so I hope you find the sweet spots for them. What is the barrel length on the .260? I'm guessing 20", which will make it a great carry rifle for the young ones heading out with you soon . The 130 AB shoots well for me now that all the "tweeking" has been done on my CDL.

I understand moving a rifle/caliber when you have overlap, but come on, you got rid of your BLR??!! :( Just kidding...that LSS does look like a great hunting machine with the scope you put on it.

Joel,

The 260 does have a twenty inch barrel, just as you surmised. Listen, it nearly killed me to divest myself of my BLR. I'll find out if the LSS is going to work out. I anticipate that I'll have to do some work on the stock, but one can never tell. It may just shoot as it is.

Mike -
My LSS in 300WSM has a B&C Medalist stock which has the aluminum bedding block in it. If yours doesn't work in the laminated stock, that may be a good option. Mine has shot well with this stock, but my barrel was fluted and cryo'd before I got it by a gunsmith in Colorado.

Joel,

Thanks for the heads up. If I run into problems, I'll see what I can do about this.

Very nice pair of rifles Mike! I can't believe you gave up your BLR, but that is a very nice 280! Good luck at the range. Can't wait to hear how well they shoot! Scotty

Scotty,

It grieved me to let the BLR go. However, I have the Hawkeye in 358 Win, and it shoots even better than did the BLR. I can't say that I had to have the LSS. In fact, I had turned it down twice because I have a 280 Featherweight. However, now that I have it, I will work up a load and see if I can blood it.
