Well, I am not willing to spend the money on the big eight and it is to much to get it like I want so I traded it to IdahoCTD for components for my remaining rifles. Its over, its out of the way and now I don't have anymore heart break over it being what I want and it wasn't going to be unless I spent some money on it and I was not willing to do that. IdahoCTD has the ability and means to get it up and running like it should be. Oh, did I say it is over with the big 8, yeah, its gone. I know, but it is gone! Now on with my life. I know so don't say it, just wanted you all to know it is gone.

7mm08 Nosler M48
3006 Marlin XL7
303 Brit sporterized
22LR
12 gauge
410 gauge
three 50cal muzzler loaders
1860 steel frame cap and ball revolver
1860 brass frame cap and ball revolver

Not much left considering what I have owned through the years, it is what it is, I don't make the money I use to so I have fewer toys. Still tankful I have some toys to still play with and do my hunts.

Between that 7-08 and the 30-06, pretty sure spending your money on hunting is much smarter. I am slowly coming around to this myself Mike. While the want doesn't stop, the want for tags and fuel money is higher right now.

Well, this did not happen to me because I am that disciplined. My income changed so much that if I wanted to try something I had not tried I had to trade to get it. The well is dry now and nothing left to trade so I need to hold on to what I have and will. Sold the Ruger American and gave the money to my wife that wanted to give it to some needy kids and I was all for that.

I love my work for the Lord and would not trade where I am for anything in the world and that includes having the big salary I use to make and all the headaches that came with it. I have enough to do my hunts with. I have made enough friends through the hunting years that generally all I need to come up with is my hunting tag and license. I have some good adventures yet to come and actually can't wait to try that entry level 06 on a hunt and the M48 will take care of the special stuff. Life is good!

I am actually selling more rifles than I buy. I hate "storing" rifles where no one uses them. I am upgrading but with my last purchase I sold two rifles. I probably will sell a couple more next month also. I have "always" put tags and fuel on the front burner. The hunt is where its at for me. !!

Well that's to bad but its the way it goes sometimes. The 8 Rm is a great cal and I am surprised it never became more popular. An old hunting buddy of my Dads has a real nice BDL from the mid 70's chambered in it , the only rifle he ever used. I ran into him a couple of years ago when we both happend to be at the same lake fishing and even though he has not hunted in 12 years and none of his kids hunt he couldn't bare to part with it. I run a small buissness and make a ok living but with 4 young ones the budget is tight, it's easy to become a little envious of some of the stuff others have . But at the end of the day I can reach into the safe with confidence that whatever is called for will meet the challenge. Be it gophers or moose , geese or grouse it's covered. I am sure your arsenal will look after your every need for anything you plan to hunt.

I guess I'm coming around to that line of thinking... The first is probably going to be an SKS that I've owned for 20+ years and have never shot, and truth be told, I have no real desire to shoot. It's probably never going to be worth any more than what it's worth right now. Cash will probably go into the new safe fund.

BK I think that "now" would be an excellent time to sell especially that rifle, it should go fast. !!!

The work of the Lord is more important anyhow.

I used to have a full safe of long guns including some pretty expensive shotguns when I was working and making a lot of money. I have spent most of my life savings on a divorce and on Ivy League schools for ungrateful kids. The money is gone the kids are gone and the guns have been reduced to (7) rifles, (2) rimfires and a shotgun for long guns, plus I still have (8) handguns.

But that is okay, I have a good wife and a decent home and enough pensions between us to get by on. I have been very fortunate to have what I do have. and we somehow get by. I am too physically frail and have been too sick to go on ambitious hunts anymore anyhow.

I write letters and try to undo some of the cultural harm being done by our government and the anti-Christian movement in this country. I do not understand why people would want to be a Socialist or Communist and live like they live in China, India and most of the third world. So I write letters and try to get people thinking about what the unintended consequences are of what they do?

I'm in the same frame of mind these days, I just can't think of anything I can justify spending money on for a while. I continue to acquire reloading stuff and I did buy new triggers for my '06 and 8 mag and I'll pay a gunsmith to install them but I think I'll be done for a while. Now, if I suddenly had more money than sense things would change, lol.

Spending money on the "new to me" 8mm Rem Mag has been fun. First trip to the range today and what fun it was.

Loaded up some 220 gr Hornady bullets. Clocked them at 3000 FPS, but I need to back off a touch on the powder as I had some difficult extraction of the fired cases.

Flipped the scope tonight to a Leupold 4.5-14 x 40 with the CDS dial. Will email a contact at Leupold and get a CDS dial made up for some Barnes 200 TSX which per the previous owner, this rifle shoot very well. The 200 gr Barnes should move along just under 3000 FPS.

When is elk season?
