Your best looking rifles?

Yours is the third Model 70 (1949 Pre64) rifle owned by members of this forum. Here is a picture of my 1949 Mod 70 Super Grade Custom. Welcome to the club!

Charlie,

I have a '49 vintage M70 as well, but it's not a "looker" per se.

My 264WM, if the seller ever decides that he's willing to actually ship the rifle I now own, will be my best looking rifle of the bunch.

I hope that you get this guy moving and get him to ship that rifle, Tom. He is way out of line, so far! Show us some pictures when you receive the rifle also. It looks like a fine Super Grade!

Scotty, your Alaskan is already in the game without having anything done to it. What s the S/N range of that gun?

You guys have not even looked at my best looking stock wood custom made by Mark Moon, Grand Junction CO, in 7mm Rem Mag.

That 7mm is outstanding Charlie! Just an awesome looking rifle.

I think mines in the 430's Charlie. I believe it's a 1960.

My mistake. Just looked.

No sir, you've been holding out! That is a thing of beauty Charlie. And I love those red pads! Gonna have to do some perusing on Midway or Brownells...

I believe you're right also, Scotty. Mine is lower 46s and 1959 manufacture.

For some reason, there are a lot of 1949 rifles out there. I think that it is pent up demand from the war. According to Rule's book, there were 106,000 Model 70 's made from 1949-1951. That period and 1952-1954 were the highest production demand number sales periods for the Model 70 during its entire production life. Everybody came back from the war and wanted a Model 70 it seems.

Nice looking Alaskan, Scotty. They have a beauty all of their own!

I have one other custom rifle in .257 Roberts which I have not identified as to who made the stock? Bill is the only person who may know this information? It is built on a Browning High Power long action. I have had to pillar the rear action screw and bedded the recoil lugs on this one. plus floating the barrel. I am trying to decide whether to have it checkered and contoured in the front end to finish it up? I have a Zeiss Diavari 5-15x42 V scope on it at the moment (not the 2-8x32 Conquest shown in the picture).

Wow!!! Wow! WOW!

How did I miss this thread??? You guys, all of you guys have something to be proud of. Whether it is walnut, maple, laminate, fiberglass, etc...they are all beautiful.

I just went through six pages of pure beauty; classic and contemporary. Thanks,

V/R

All Pre 64s look good to me, fancy or not. My 1949 Super Grade was junk when I rescued it from the guy who had bought it originally. I had to have a Smith fill the 4 (out of alignment) holes in the action for his side mount and replace the totally filed out checkering on the Super Grade stock by custom stocking it. So it was a rescue project. Fortunately I had traded for a piece of French Walnut and had the wood for the stock. I was single at that time or it never would have gotten done.

Scotty, yes, yours is about a 1960 stock. However, it is an Alaskan and pretty much original. I would have died and gone to heaven if my ex wife had ever bought me anything nearly that nice! All of us are fortunate to have the guns that we have. Plus, most of us have a special gun that we ourselves put above the other guns that we have. I guess we are all just lucky to have these guns.

And a most attractive rifle it is, Rommel.
Thanks Dr Mike. One of the two that my wife bought for me.

Here's the other, a 300 Win Mag Model 70 Laredo LRH. Not as fancy but beautiful nevertheless.

Rommel, that Clackamas Kimber is a really, really nice rifle. Those are really in demand today because they did not make a lot of them and they are really special. The Laredo is nice too!

Very nice DF. Both of them are darned cool in there own way. I love that little Kimber and the 300, well, seeing some of the groups it's turned out makes it pretty special as well.

Here's the latest addition to the gun safe
