I bought a scale to measure some factory charge weights and to see the different powders, since I will be using it to reload soon.
3006 150gr ammo ----

Fed shok 57.0 gr
Of ball powder. Very accurate.

Fusion , extruded 51.8 gr . Not accurate.

Interlock , ball powder 52.0 gr Not accurate.

Scirocco , ball powder 54.0 gr very accurate.

I have read seating depths and charge weights are the most important for accuracy and powder selection not so important, staying with reloading data of course !!!!!

Oh yeah ! I found some 150 gr. NABs and bought 100 of them !
Just a few more things and a press and I'll be ready !

I have imr 4064 and h 414.

Thanks !

When you say not accurate or very accurate what are you judging by? An example maybe?

Your definition of accuracy? Bear in mind that most of that powder is non-canister. Hand loaders are unable to purchase it for their own use. Thus, charge weights won't mean much in this instance.

Bullet holes touching at 100 yards for accurate.
A 2.5 group for not accurate.

I like the mid shoulder shots , so to me a 2.5 group could mean a graze or a miss.
I know 2.5 is still a dead whitetail ,but my rifle can do better .

I am here to learn , so curiosity has got a hold of me !

This is to answer Dr Mike as well !

Your rifle likes some factory ammo, and not so much with others. The harmonics for your best shooting ammo is less of a factory than with the other stuff, but if you're looking to handload then you're in a different arena. Powders available to the factories are not what you and I can buy on the open market so comparing handloads to factory stuff is almost always going to favor the handload, if it was made with care and tested/adjusted.

This is one of the basic reasons we handload Ray!

Guns like people some digest Haggis while others regurgitate at the smell or sight.

as a fairly new reloader myself, I'm a fan of the performance of IMR-4350 but HATE loading with it since it doesn't meter as well, I end up finding that I set the powder measure just a bit light and weigh every load then use a spoon to tap in to get it perfect. not to discourage you from using IMR4350 as I said it has proven to be the best for a few bullets in 2 different rifles

Ray,

I have a 30-06 and was loading 150 AB and BT's at one time. I was using W748 Powder and getting 3,000 fps from a Rem 700 22" barrel, for what it's worth. Grouping was excellent, no pressure signs.

Ray one thing my Grandfather had always said to me was:

"Never ever apologize for asking a question. There are no dumb questions in life. We need to ask questions for us to learn throughout our lives. The world would be a very odd place to live if we all were born knowing everything there is to know in the world from day one".

This is something that has stuck with me and I am teaching my kids the same way. If we knew everything there would be no need for a forum like this. I for one would miss this forum as I have learned so much from others and have met some very nice people on this site.

Oh yah and having Scottish heritage in me still does not lead me to try Haggis. Lol
