QL 280 rem please

I've got a custom shop 700 in a 280 remington with a 24" tube. If someone could please run it at max 270 pressures, with the 150g ballistic tip and 162g Amax with all powders, that would be awesome. Reason I ask at 270 pressures is because the 280 is historically down loaded to the pump/semiautos. Out of a bolt action, there's no reason it can't be loaded to 270 pressures.
 
I'm am courious as well but always thought a 26 inch barrel would would be awesome in .280 Rem. but a 24 inch barrel would do.
One Rifle for everything. Nosler 140gr BT for Deer, Nosler 160gr AB or Partition for Elk and Nosler 175gr Partition for Bears.
 
I run the older two core Speer 160 gr. Grand Slam at 2900 and change using some long discontinued WMR powder with good accuracy. I got the same level of speed using IMR7828SSC but accuracy was a bit dismal. I did try the Nosler 150 gr. ABLR but the rifle absolutely hated that bullet. I haven't tried much of anything else lately.

Thanks a lot DrMike! Thats what I like to see with the 280, easily 2900+ with 160s and 3000+ with 150s. Worlds ahead of most published 280 data...

Good info, yes thank you DrMike.

Remingtonman be careful, I have used several of those powders with 150g bullets in my bolt action M70 clone and can't get near those powder charges, especially with RL26. I see slight pressure signs, heavy bolt lift and extractor marks, at 61gr. of RL26 and 150gr AccuBond. That said I am getting an average of 3024 fps with 150gr AB's and just over 2900 fps with 160gr Partitions.
 
I like to try and stay with hodgons extreme line, but I've also had stellar results with rl22 in the 06/7mm/300win cases, but the temp sensitivity and lot to lot on rl22 isnt great. That's where rl23 comes in...and RL26 seems to get the highest velocities in many cartridges, so it's worth a shot as well. My favorite powder is H1000, but Its not much use for the 280...

Dr. Mike, that's some impressive QL loads for the .280!
Remingtonman_25_06, I bought myself a Thompson Center Venture rifle, with a 24 inch tube.
Those QL loads show that there isn't a lot of difference in velocity to a 7mm Rem Mag. That's outstanding!
I, not too long ago, purchased a pound of RL26, and had some RL22 on hand, now I will copy the info to put in my .280 reloading manual to use.
By the way, I was wondering if I could get QL loads from the above pressures for a 139 gr Hornady bullet?

The 280 is pretty impressive when loaded to its potential with modern powders. I feel its superior to both the 270 and 3006, but that's just because I'm a 7mm fan haha. It is going to be my lightweight rifle for everything from coyotes to deer, elk, and black bear out to 800 yards. My 7-300 win mag is the primary rifle, but she weighs a tad over 15#
 
The 280 Rem has occupied a position as one of my favourite cartridges for many, many years. I've harvested a goo number of deer with the cartridge. One of my favourite hunts with the .280 was in the company of BlkRam. We were standing at the edge of a small field speaking with a gentleman who happened to be hunting the same area, when Gil said, "That's a nice buck." I looked where he indicated, but saw nothing but bush across the field (about 200 yards). He did his best to direct me to look in the right place, until at last he said, "Well, if you're not going to shoot it, I will." That was all it took. "Okay, I'll shoot that buck," I stated with emphasis. Looking one more time, there he stood just inside the treeline. It was a quick shot as the buck had decided he had given plenty of chances to the inept hunter. At the shot he seemed to disappear. Recovering from battery, he was nowhere to be seen. We walked across the field and there he lay, crumpled where he had stood. A 139 grain Hornady InterLock had ensured that he would accompany me home. That has pretty much been my experience with the .280 whenever I've used it on deer.
 
Looks like RL26, IMR7828ssc and RL17/RL22 are the top velocity getters. My goal is 2900fps with the 160s and 3000fps with 150s at 1/2 MOA. Still need to get some talleys and then swap the 4-12x leupold off the 240 wby, and well begin some load development.
 
Rl17 looks good because the fill capacity is a little more reasonable. It's pretty hard to get much more than 58-59g of powder in an 06' case. I use RL17 in my wife's kimber 7/08 with 150g nbts at 2850fps and 1/2 MOA.
 
Yes, I am also a big fan of the 280 Rem, having used it successfully on deer and elk, and hope that my custom LH Rem 700 will like the 150gr AB and Re26! I know it really likes the 140gr AB. Used it on my last spike elk.
I have always been a fan of the 160gr bullets in the 280, but since that bullet weight shoots so well in my 7MM STW, I would like to use a slightly lighter bullet in the 280.
Any load that will shoot the 150gr AB at about 3100 fps and sub-MOA will work for me!

I tried DrMike's load with the 150gr LRAB that gets great velocity and accuracy in his rifle, but my rifle did not like it at all.
Past 280's have shot the 160 and 162 grain bullets very well, usually 5 shot groups sub-MOA at 100 yards, and were used on mule deer.
Going to use the 140gr AB in my 7mm-08.
