405 Woodleigh Weld core 45-70

That will work on about any game you might encounter. Good performance.

Talk about a hammer. That there is a freight train.

YIKES!

Years ago I shot a mule deer with my .45/70 Marlin Guide Gun with a 405 gr Remington soft nose at 1650 fps, and it worked GREAT.

At 2100 fps? Wow!

Dang! I've been wanting to try my hard cast LBT's in Water Jugs out of my Ruger #1 45-70.

Get a LOT of the water jugs!

Years ago I put a 405 gr Remington soft point through a row of 1-gallon plastic milk jugs filled with water. The bullet was recovered in the 8th jug! That's awesome penetration.

A subsequent test with the hard cast 425 gr Piledriver Junior went through 12 jugs and just kept going, landing in the dirt berm....

My mold casts a 434 Grain LFN, and should be heading out of my #1 around 1800fps...I'll have to go for a baker's dozen of jugs I guess!

I've got the 405 Remington coming out of my guide gun in .450 Marlin in the mid 1700's. I know that velocity would jump pretty well with a longer barrel but every time I pull the trigger I swear I'm going to dislocate something!!! It definitely makes a resounding whack on the steel plates at the range. But to hit something at 2100 fps would bring new meaning to the phrase "smack down".

Wow, that Woodleigh looks great.

Yeah, I gave up trying to catch the heavies in the 45-70's.. They just seem to keep going and going.

Awesome recovery though, I cannot imagine 2100... I shot the 425's at 1850'ish and that was about all I wanted to hang on to.

Beautiful rifle. You're right. With good recoil protection it's probably pretty reasonable.

I shot this moose with the 350 gr hot core one shot 100 yards down he went while walking up to him he started to roll over so I shot him one more time in the neck at the base of his head but with my 405 woodleigh bullet it was about 30 yards this what bullet looked like after traveling close to 4 feet down his neck and stopping at the tip of the back strap. the bullet weight 398 gr and was 2100 fts

Congrats on that bullet and wicked recovery as well. That bullet dug mighty deep.

What did you think of the 350 Speer?
