Thanks for the comments guys. I just hope it shoots as good as it looks.
Most of these haven't been shot much they get bore sighted shot for verification and put in the safe.
I wish I had taken a video of my 18 year old grandson shooting my M77 338 wm it was a sight to see since it picked him up and sat him back down at the shooting bench not once but each time he shot it. o)

Too Tall

What an awesome looking rifle. 26” barrel I assume. I have. 338 win mag as well and love it. I like shooting heavy. With a 26” McGowen I get 2,850 out of 250 gr SMK’s and 2,450 out of 300 gr Berger Elite Hunters. What an awesome round. Enjoy

I was told it has shipped and should reach my FFL by Wednesday.
If you see in the news where a man runs down a FedEx truck and carries it off on his back you'll know it was me.
The anticipation of it getting here is all most over whelming, just can't stand waiting for anything let alone a new to me rifle.

I already have loaded some virgin brass to get some H2O weights for capacity and sighting in the scope.

I have a New Haver M70 Stainless Classic in .338 Win. Mag. Darn thing beats me to death. Finally put two pounds of lead bars in the forearm and butt, plus a muzzle break which makes it almost tolerable. Big problem with the rifle is it's way too light. Barely made 8 pounds with a scope. Between the lead and bipod, weight is closer to 12 pounds which is nice off the bench. The butt on the "plastic" stock is too narrow for a rifle with that level of recoil. Leaves me with several options. Restock the rifle, rebarrel to something like the 7MM Rem. Mag. or just sell it outright. I'll think of something. :roll: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Please keep us in mind. A SS Classic 338 is always a great rifle to have around. Mine is becoming a Newton but I’d not pass up a good one.

Paul get yourself either a Bell&Carlson Medalist or a H&S Precision stock with the full aluminum action bedding block in it with a Decelerator recoil pad and it will tame it down some.
Those factory plastic stocks just are too light for the magnum cartridges. My M77 338 came in one and you could feel it flexing with every shot. I put it in a H&S and what a difference it made. I think my M77 weighs 9 1/2 to 10lbs with the scope and rings which is just about the right weight for a medium magnum caliber rifle.
Get one for it and you will thank me.

Love those Classic Sporters. They are a beautiful rifle. I think you did well on that trade and ened up with something you'll use and appreciate. Enjoy it.

My old Remington 700 BDL LH in 338 Win Mag would leave me sore and bruised after 20 rounds off the bench. While it shot well (0.9" groups @ 100 yards) with the Federal Premium ammunition with the 210 gr Partitions (used to harvest elk, moose, grizzly and bison), it shot even better groups with the Federal blue box 225 gr load (0.75" groups).
I replaced the hard black rubber pad with a LimbSaver pad, and was able to shoot 60 rounds off the bench without being either sore or bruised afterwards! What a difference! Was actually pleasant to shoot. Have been sold on the LimbSaver recoil pad ever since.

A good friend has always shot a moderate load in his Browning BBR in 338 Win Mag with the 200 gr Hot Cor bullets. Was pleasant and accurate to shoot.

You could look at either building a 338-06 or 338 Federal. Both are pleasant to shoot, and would be in lighter, handier rifles.

Foolishly sold my 338 rifle when I needed money some years ago to pay for truck repairs.
Found another online today and am chatting with the guy about it at this time. Seems he is looking for a lever action, and we are trying to see what kind of deal we can come up with.

We badly need an update[emoji1]. That’s a really nice looking Model 70.

There is a pre-64 NIB, with hang tags on Gunbroker. .300 H&H. If my wife wouldn’t cut me, it would be mine!
