Just thinking to myself waiting for a meeting to start.
My 264cal rifle collection has expanded from just 260 Rem's to include a 6.5-300Wby and soon to be 264 Win Mag.
I was loading my 260 typically with 140 and 143gr bullets and I am wondering if I should drop down to the 120-130 range and leave the heavies for the Mags. Off the top of my head, the range of 6.5 bullets I have goes from121 to 156. :unsure: maybe the 121 E-tips or 125 Partitions deserve a look
 
Either would do well, with me leaning toward the 125 Part. The 120 BT is a champ in our grendels for whitetail. It punches much harder than it should. I'd think it would be just as good and even better in your 260..Problem would be finding them.

I second that that 120 Ballistic Tip is a great bullet in non magnum cartridges, I used it to DRT a red stag cow out of the Creed 6.5
I would not hesitate to use the heavier 140 - 143 grain bullets in the non magnums as long as they shoot well. As for the 6.5 magnums, I would stick with the premium well constructed heavies.
 
While I have always been a fan of the 140's in my 6.5x55 Swede, I have some 130 gr AB's to try in my 6.5 CM.
I did like the 120 BT in the Swede, but have not had or used any in quite some time. It would work equally well in the 260. The 125 Partition would also be a great choice in your 260.

What twist rate are you getting for your 264wm?

I just ordered a PacNor 8 twist barrel for 140vld bullets.
 
I have a 6.5 Creed a 6.5 RPM and a 6.5-300 Bee. I had a 6.5 PRC sauer but sold it to afford the Titanium RPM. I am loading the 124 Absolute hammer in the 6.5-300. I stopped at 3450 because the accuracy is great and no excess pressure. Brass life is great. The absolute hammer has a super short bearing surface so you should get 200-300 fps more that usual. If for example you use RL22 that would probably be too slow, so use H4350. If I use a faster powder (7828 comes to mind) I can get 3700-3800 fps with the absolute!

In a lead based bullet 140gr I think is ideal for 260 Rem. Monos I would do 120gr. The magnums have more than enough horsepower for any 6.5 bullets currently offered.

Your 6.5-300 is screaming! I havent really done anything with mine yet
 
I have the 6.5X55(same FPS as the 260) and like the 120gr Swift A-Frame or 130gr Swift Sirocco bullets. The 125gr PAR is also a good choice. I also shoot 100gr Barnes TTSX when required.
In my 264win mag I like the same bullets or the 140gr Swift A-Frame or Nosler PAR.
In my 6.5X300W I shoot 130gr Swift Sirocco, 140gr Swift A-Frame and 127gr Barnes LXR
 
I think the 120BT 6.5 bullet is like the same weight in 7mm. Both are above their weight class in performance. I like them in my 6.5x55. Dan
 
Never had a Krieger. I have a Bartlein 7WSM that is a good shooter with minimum load development. My other Bartlien 300wm will not shoot anything but secant ogive bullets :(! Despite 500 rounds of development, five different bullets, mant seating depth tests, several different powders.

My Mcgowen button rifled barrels usually come in to settling down after I've formed 150 pc of brass and less than 100 rounds of development.

I always want to fire my virgin brass and FL size before serious development.
 
The unfired custom LH Rem 700 I picked up in 358 Win has a 22" SS 1:12 McGowen barrel on it.
I immediately took it in the local gunsmith to get NECG iron sights installed on it, and order a stock for it, as they had converted a rh BDL stock to lh and painted it, and just isn't attractive to me. Going to put on a Boyd's classic walnut stock on it.
Glad I took it in, as the DM will not feed 358 shells (a design flaw in the follower, and lips on the magazine do not work for the 358) and they did not open up the action feed rails for the 358. Going to replace the DM for the regular floorplate and magazine box; which is too bad as I was really looking forward to having the DM.
Cannot complain too much, as I did pick it up for a pretty good price, just a little disappointing that a gunsmith (unknown) would not have performed a better job on the build.
Then I will get to shoot it and see how the McGowen barrel performs. It will be my first experience with their barrels.
 
Several years I had McGowen put a number 5 sporter magnum barrel in 243 Win on a Win action for groundhogs mostly. I was pleased with the groups it gave. H450 was the powder I remember that shot well. Shows how long that's been. Dan.

Really depends on the type of game, max distance, and type of bullet you want to use.
