.22 Vudoo just came in

Been away from posting for a while, had an alert that my custom .22 Vudoo just arrived at my FFL today. Went to pick it up, its a beauty. Upon arriving at home, I put on the ATACR on the .22, it had a few millimeters to spare of clearing the 22 inch Bartlein MTU barrel. The cycle of the Vudoo 360 action is super smooth and I like it. Going to find some time to shoot it this week. I have 2 bricks of SK Standard Plus, Vudoo advised that it takes about 500 rounds to season the barrel. Once its seasoned, I'll give it a cleaning with some C4 Bore Tech, and try different ammo from Lapua and SK and see how this baby shoots. Shooting the .22 will make me feel like a kid again. The club I'm in do have those .22 small bore matches monthly, shooting 50, 100, 150 and 200 at steel plates as small as 1/4 inches at 50 yards to probably the biggest plate at 200 yards is a 12 inch. Each relay has several plates going from big to small, there are some tiny plates at different distances. Had a match in the beginning of the year using a friend's CZ which placed me in 2nd. Had fun there with new faces over pizza and drinks.
I love mine. Good choice.

These are IMO the finest shooting .22’s out of the box out there. But yes, they are custom made and will put a smile on your face that seems to never go away when you’re shooting one!

I had Mike make me one back in 2018 in a McMillan M40A1 stock with a 20” Bartlein Kukri contour using a TT Diamond trigger. This is a Gen II, two bolt design before making the three lug action you have now.

I have a few thousand rounds on mine and it’s a tack driver with good ammo. Center X has always produced the smallest groups, but the the long distance shooting I do I’ve had great success with the longrange SK ammo.

The prices of the .22 LR made by Lapua have gone through the roof since COVID. Thank God I had bought tons of the stuff before that happened and having a rifle that will shoot well with the lower quality SK ammunition.

I bought the LH Bergara B-14R LH Trainer Rifle Carbon Fibre and mounted a Burris Veracity 3-15x50 Ballistic E1 FFP in Vortex Pro Series 30mm Medium Rings, on a Nightforce Xtreme 20 MOA Rail. Total outfit weighs 10 lbs 7 oz.

I have just worked on testing 11 different types of ammo at 50 yards so far and have just under 1,000 rounds through it to date.
The Lapua Center-X has proven to be the most accurate so far (avg of 0.388")...but at $29/box was $11/box more than the second most accurate ammo (RWS Special Match avg of 0.404"). I was able to get 8 bricks of the RWS load locally last year. (Could not even find a brick of the Center-X at the time, anywhere close to me.)
While these might not be as small as the Vudoo, it is pretty good for me so far...and I haven't had to spend as much. And since we do not have any matches here that I am aware of, I won't be competing either, so am happy with the performance I am getting. And the trigger time will be good for more practice, in prep for my centerfires for hunting seasons!

I have recently found a guy who had 10 bricks of Center-X for sale @ $14/box, so am picking them up when I make a trip south in a couple of weeks! Should keep me going for a while.

My next step is to see how the various ammo groups @ 100 yards. And then 150...
Having fun shooting this rifle!

Only change I may make is to upgrade the scope later...after I learn more about using a FFP scope.
Thinking of a Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 - F1 - MOA-XT ... like the reticle, and the ability to crank the parallax down to 11 yards vs the 50 on the Burris.

350+ that said after 250 it gets really hard even with 2 moa targets.

my 22 rimfire is 56.5MOA at 350 yards . that's about the same as I dial my 338 Lapua at 2000 yards .

I got a better scope , and a 40 MOA rail , mounted up a few days ago . with a 50 yards zero , I have 92 moa of elevation . I think this will get me to our long rimfire target, 450 yards , with some extra .

How far are you shooting?
In comparison between the Center X and the SK Long Range, which fared better at 350 yards? I have both brands, but winds have not been very forgiving. Waiting for the best time. I found some Center X a couple weeks ago, I now have two bricks of each lot of Center X and a half brick of Long Range.

Good stuff fellas.
General question...
What is the MOA drop for 500 yards?
The reason I ask is our gun club host PRS events. Recently the club bought additional property as a safety buffer. Now they are logging it and building a 500 yard range. The 22 PRS guys are drooling over this. I see trouble coming on this slippery slope as there won't be much of a buffer zone. And it's a matter of time before the area bordering the buffer zone is a subdivision.

JD , if I have it figured right my set up will need 94.75 MOA at 500 yards . my lease short range goes out to 450 yards , that should take 81 MOA to reach it .

we stopped at 450 yard target , because we were getting high on the hillside backstop .

Thank you Jim. That's exactly why I asked, figuring 100 MOA points the barrel towards the clouds so to speak. And what happens when someone dials for 500 and forgets to return to zero and shoots at 50 yards....
Factor in the general public coming to these shooting events along with some of the local experts and legends, it's not if but when....
I'm thankful I have my own range out back and shooting 22 rimfire at 250 yards is plenty for us.

I chronograph the two and neither stuck out as a better choice, as well as some RWS Match. So I just started shooing the LR SK ammunition here at my home range and the stuff really started to shine at long distances.

So I stuck with using it for the serious stuff when I was competing against my friends. Under 200 yards it’s hard to miss the steel targets I have put out on the stages I have here. The 250 yard 7” round plate because of where it is seems to be the most difficult. The sixth plate up hill at 10° 320 yards away is very difficult even when it seems like there’s no wind. I always hold for wind no matter what I’m shooting btw.

I believe at 320 it’s like 15 mils of elevation depending on the atmospheric conditions.

I know that there has been a lot of issues/complaints by new landowners near the Dawson Creek Sportsmans Club's range over the years.
I always wonder why they chose to buy that land and move there when they knew the range was there??? (and been there for decades)

The one new landowner has even gone so far as to salt there roof and gutters with bullets and then filed a complaint with the RCMP stating that they were being hailed by bullets from the range, and sent a letter to the editor of the local paper. The resulting investigation found that there were no rifling marks on any of the bullets found on the roof and in the gutters! (Busted!)

But it didn't stop other events from occurring. Last year the range was forced to close down for many months and deal with some issues regarding their backstops... a frustrating affair for the Club and its members.

I hope that you do not experience similar issues for your club!

Jim it blows my mind what you guys are doing with those little rimfires. I am curious on how much wind hold for an 5mph at full value at 450.

I just got my .22 Vudoo last summer and never shot past 200 yards, but I'm curious to try. I was fiddling with my Kestrel in my office just now, according to it, the elevation and windage are as follows: E as elevation and W as windage with 9 o clock wind @ 5 mph. Center X .22 velocity is 1075 fps. Of course, temps do affect elevation readings. A more accurate reading is performed by capturing weather values in the field, but in my office I'm learning to fiddle with the numbers.
100 - E 6.35 W 1.65 L
200 - E 23.50 W 3.31 L
300 - E 43. 73 W 4.93 L
400 - E 66.64 W 6.55 L
500 - E 92.30 W 8.22 L

I'm itching to try 250 and 300 yards soon on 6 &10 inch steel. 200 yards is very easy

Good input. It shouldn't take long for to ring the 250 and 300 yard gongs.

I was out of elevation at 300 yards . I did shoot at 350 by holding over . I'm not just sure what I had on for wind correction , what Mark has posted looks about right .with the new rail and another scope I should be able to dial out to the 450 yard target . I need to test ammo , get my sig rangefinder programed , and start a bit of a log book . I enjoy the long range shooting more than the hunting . yes I agree , 200 yards is easy . I have my 11 YO grandson shooting 200 , with my gun . he shoots his marlin XT22 to 150 . I'm putting my old scope on his rifle , along with a 20 MOA rail to get him out on a few longer targets . we never got serious about shooting the rimfires . in fact we pretty much stopped shooting our big guns on the long range. food plots and big bucks have taken over the club . I'll leave it at that .
