Bolt Issue, clicker?

Deer season isn't far off.
Saturday after Thanksgiving in PA and our ranch in TX it opens second Saturday in October. She probably won’t hunt there this year because our youngest gets is still too young to leave with her Mom or bring with us.

Jim, funny you should mention that. Did you know that my gunsmith has a beat up, left-handed, long action Rem. M700 on the shelf that would make a perfect donor rifle? We talked about building a 6.5-284 Norma with it. But, it could be made into a 280AI also. Hmmm....
Let's see:
  • Sako extractor
  • Trued action
  • Converted to 3-position safety (like my other rifles)
  • Fast twist SS barrel
  • Lightweight composite stock
  • Trigger Tech trigger
  • Choice of any long action, standard case head, cartridge
The only things is, I don't need it. Hmmm...

Fixed it for you 😁
The 280 AI has a lot of punch and very accurate.

As the old saying goes, "What does need have to do with it?" Not a bad justification.

So many options Dan...But if you are thinking about going with a rebated rim in a 6.5 why not stretch it out a little more to the Weatherby 6.5 RPM would make for a great backup travel rifle

The problem I have is I already have rifles and back-up rifles:
  • 300 WM for elk
  • 300 WSM for elk
  • 7mm RM for deer and antelope
  • 7mm WSM for deer and antelope
  • 358 Win. for stalking through the woods
  • 6.5 Creedmoor for training and plinking and loaner for deer hunting
  • 22 LR for varmints
The 300 WM has as much recoil as I want to endure. So, I don't even want anything bigger.

I don't have much interest in anything smaller than the 6.5 CM. Maybe, I could pretend I could use a 25 caliber for something...

Or you can use a 280AI and cover everything

I got rid of my 280AI years ago. I felt like the 7 mag was so close to the same but with a little more. At the time my 7 mag was a great little Sako that was very accurate. I have always had a 7 mag as a primary or back up since then.. today it’s a Tikka T3X. The .284 line of caliber options is easily my favorite though. Not sure if I’ll get another AI though lol.
