better grips for my needs

with a 45-70 being a handful as a rifle the pistol is even more of one! factory grips are less than desired as it's weird the way the top 2 wrap when holding the pistol. looking for solutions i found badger custom grips. with options to choose from i called them to get a better understanding of how i needed to place the order. well, here's the finished product.

Having grips that fit your hands is so important to good shooting. I have small hands and factory grips aren't a one size fits all.

With the recoil it gives the grip is to skinny at the top for my hands as I'd say are maybe medium? From recoil the trigger guard would bite me. Shouldn't be an issue anymore.

My mom said that her dad let her shoot his .45 Colt revolver once when she was a kid, but did not give her fair warning of the recoil. It knocked her onto her but when she shot it. At only 117 lbs. I think that is exactly what that 45-70 would do to me no matter how prepared I tried to be! That is a monster!

Yeah grip design in a handgun of any caliber is a big deal for control of recoil. A S&W M29 44mag would eat my hand up with factory target grips where a Ruger Super Black Hawk was a pussy cat with the same load.
Those look like nice grips.

I haven't shot a ruger revolver before, but the 629 in 44mag wooden grips would eat my hands up. Put rubber hogue finger grooves on and problem solved.

I had a Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 Mag that would roll upwards. I put a Pachmyer grip on it and it was much easier to control. I sold it off when I got a S&W 629 Classic. It came with a Houge grip and wasn’t bad to shoot, even with 300 gr loads. I bought another 629, this one with a 3” barrel and round but rosewood grips. It was a handful to shoot with 240 gr loads. I’ve since added some VZ grips which fit my hand better and it’s much easier to shoot. Loading 240 gr poly coated hard cast bullets with 10.0 grs Unique is a lot of fun.
