I agree with keeping a nice 660 in original configuration, I wouldn't alter it. Especially if it was in 222 Remington, the 20" barrel is the sweet spot in my opinion. Just enjoy owning a classic rifle and shoot it. Not a lot of them left like the one you have! Enjoy!
No it is an excalibur barrel, well shot, i usually run the 6x45 barrel on the gun, 65 grain bullets in that 24" barrel run about 3350 fps and shoot .3 moa, both light sporter barrels, I had the 223 barrel cut to 20" just for a sping truck gun for groundhogs, using 47 grain hp @ over 3650 fps...
When I was young I have to admit, it was more about chest pounding, and brain washing. First thinking those big magnums were better because i could handle them without flinching like most, then believing they were magically better by giving marginally more speed???
Both BS, some guts flinch...
I would base my all rounds on one rf case, 2 centerfire cases, and 3 handgun cases.
I have to start with the 22lr, most basic and practicle hunting cartridge to ever start out with hunting or even just shooting.
Next would be the 223 case, it does so much in 22 cal or 6mm. Hard to beat in the...
I have 4 boxes, sealed that are brand new, being unavailable for 5 years I over bought more than I will use in my lifetime.
$450.00 for all 4 boxes and I will cover the shipping.
Or $110.00 per 100, and you pay actual shipping.
First I'll take it, gets priority. PM me for payment.
320 grn WLFN, in 44 cal is my one and done, on any game, mice to bear. In a rifle I'd run a GC. but 300 grain is where I would start, just hard to beat a good cast slug, once seasoned, no more bore cleaning! What can I say, I'm lazy. But seriously, you can push it faster with less pressure than...
If I have any gaps thru the 338/06 AI, which is as big as I have a use for, it would be caliber specific. Meaning I have options the are better suited for particular game, than what is missing.
17 Mach IV, 222, 223, 6BR, 6x45, 6x47L, 6mm AI, 257AI, 30BR 30x47L. Then the 338/06 AI. I can't...
That is gorgeous and best of all follows from but to tip of the forarm. I've seen a lot of prety wood peater out halfway down the stock, that is sweet!
Thank you! As for the scope, it's a Leica, hard to beat, great tracking, easy turret zeroing, for a true hunting scope the best Illumination available, perfect for total twilight use and the best zero stop I've used. As far as glas goes,,, typical Leica, you can get better but not for twice the...
This really is a disease, and sadly the older you get the more immune to the cure you become. But it isn't my fault! I think I was setup! But, yes, another new custom, or maybe just call it a modified custom rifle? You know like a tractor puller adding a third engine, for better performance from...
The ones I show are made by me, the WFN is a 340 grain GC Mold I had made by Dan, @ Mountain Molds 20 years ago. The 357 is a HP in the picture, but has the pins to cast small HP, Penta Point, cup point, and WFN solid point, it is also a GC. below is my best pictures of the different nose...
Why settle for one? I prefer the unfluted cylinders, as well as the stronger larger framed Blackhawks, for my loads, but have both 45 Colt, and 357 Mag, both in my prefered 5.5" length. I screwed up with the 357 it has SK grips made from a wormy Pecan Barn beam, with the scroll engraving wiped...
