Howdy all!
I wanted to let everyone know that I recently went to the range to sight in my new to me Taurus 1911. It comes in the tried and true .45 ACP. After figuring out where it was hitting, I decided to give it the run through and see how accurate it was. Let me tell you, anyone who poo poos the Taurus 1911’s doesn’t use them or is jumping on the hater bandwagon. It fed and ejected every round I shot. I was shooting the Winchester white box 230 gr ball target ammo. I’ll post some pics now and let everyone judge for themselves.
The range I shot was 15 yds.

I have a Taurus PT1911 that shoots well and has never failed to feed or eject. Yours looks like it is going to be a good shooter and I hope it proves to be as reliable as the one I have.
I’m hoping as well. Time will tell.

The shots that aren’t in the black were us getting acquainted with each other. I was figuring out her trigger pull and guessing where she may hit instead of just aiming at the middle of the target.
After our proper introduction, and I getting acquainted, our session was much more productive.
The pistol has everything I wanted in a 1911. Beaver tail grip safety, extended slide release lever, skeleton hammer, lowered port, and full length guide rod. She has a stainless steel barrel too.
When I got her, she was DIRTY! And the slide had so many scratches. I thought someone had put her through the wringer, but I cleaned her, spruced her up a little. There wasn’t anything wrong mechanically, and it has made me very happy.

A good buddy of mine has a Taurus 1911 and is quite satisfied with it. Reliable and accurate!

If you decide to handload for the 45 ACP, strongly consider the 185 grain Nosler hollow point. Accurate as all get out and yes, it expands just fine. Recoil can be quite a bit less than the 230 gr rounds too.

Regards, Guy

Thank you Guy for the suggestion. I do appreciate every time you have any feedback, especially about the 1911 platform and .45 ACP. I was going to personally ask you about the 230 gr Berry’s Hybrid bullets. Do you like 200 gr bullets too? But I will definitely look at 185’s and I know they are zippers for being a .45 ACP.

Without even getting into +P pressures (which in 45 ACP aren't very high) it's easy to exceed 1,000 fps, and even 1,100 fps with the 185's.

Our friend on this forum, Reflex, assures me that the 185 gr Nosler is a great hunting bullet for deer! I know that the US Army Marksmanship Unit used them for years. Maybe they still do? Hate to admit it but the Army typically out-shoots my beloved Marine Corps. Sigh... I have at least 2,500 of those 185 Nosler hollow points on hand for my 45 ACP. Nosler sometimes puts them on sale and I grabbed a lot of them in the past.

Yes I like 200's as well. That started for me back in the 1980's when Speer had their famous "flying ashtray" 200 grain JHP... Heck of a bullet, but no longer in production. Also - and this is important if you're thinking about hunting with a 45 1911... Finn Aagaard used 200 gr cast SWC bullets on wild hogs in Texas with good results including complete penetration. Now - I haven't read that article in nearly 40 years so memory could be faulty. Either way, yes, I've shot a lot of 200 grain bullets from the 45's over the years.

Berry's - I like their bullets! They tend to be "soft" and expand well. Most are intended for target shooting but their line of hybrid hollow points are intended for self-defense ammo and are commercially loaded by at least a couple of companies. They're inexpensive which helps with budget reloading.

Regards, Guy
