I've got a ladder loaded with 7828, WLRM primers, and 130gr Partitions for my 270 WSM. Started at 63 grains and stopped it at 67.5. 63 grains isn't the absolute minimum load listed for Hodgdon, but should be plenty safe as a start. I'm curious if any of you have any loads with this powder logged in your notes that faired well for you. I decided to try 7828 simply because I have 9 lbs and it seems to be a very good burn rate for the cartridge. Sorta threw a dart at my powder locker and that's what it hit. This will be my deer load for this fall, or at least this bullet with maybe a different powder if it doesn't do well. Also leaning heavily towards RL23. I've got too many options and am indecisive. Thanks in advance to you all.

This may be a Quickload I use imediately as well.

Between my 7828 ladder test, and Mikes kindness with Quickload I should have arrived at a load by Thursday if the planets align. The range opens Wednesday so I can fire the ladder for 7828, and RL23, and Ill shoot the results for groups on Thursday.

I have a decent amount of 7828ssc but could go fast! With many cartridge and bullet combos I have i might have to pick and choose! Between 7saum, 6.5prc, 277fury, 243win and both 300 and 264wm it'll be gone in a blink of an eye. Only vv powders will be there to take up the slack:(. I hope hd and grand will be good substitutes. I don't have much aliant powder selection with anything more than 2# of each excluding 16, 23 and 26 of which I have zero. I don't have much faith in retumbo or h1k to do the job. Both are probably fine along with 4831sc which i have 5# or so of each. I'll buy the 7828ssc you have left if it doesn't pan out.

Finally settled on IMR7827 SSC pushing a 130gr Partition at 3230+ fps for deer this fall. Its not the fastest load I could have came up with but i'd be hard pressed to come up with a load that will be more reliable. It will punch through both shoulders if needed, and will make a Texas heart shot as well {nastiest job of field dressing I've ever had btw}. It will be flat enough for any shot I'll need, and smack em hard when closer in. I can also duplicate the load with IMR 4831 whick I have plenty of if I run low on 7828. i figured I'd keep it simple this year.

The imr4831 was my go-to in my (technically dad's) 264wm for decades. Don't remember how much I have left as there isn't anymore to find. Hoping 565, 568, HD or grand will pick up the slack. Might use what I have left for the 243win?

I've picked up a workable surplus of Staball HD that I'd like to work up for it. I'm thinking I'll use it with E-tips. They seem to build pressure very fast in this rifle so maybe the slow Winchester HD will be the ticket. It seems to build. pressure quickly with everything I've tried to be honestly.

I have e-tip in 1 bullet (180 30 cal). I haven't tried any yet. I bought them for 300wm, but might try them in 308win? Really not sure why I bought them other than load data? Did you buy them for state hunting requirements or just wanting to shoot them?

I just put a McGowan barrel on my 308 Win. With only a few rounds down the tube it will put 3 150gr E-Tips in one hole with H4895. Looks like it’s going to be a pretty good barrel.

AND, I couldn’t leave well enough alone. Loaded some rounds with RL23 and the 130gr Partitions. I’m going to see if they perform satisfactorily tomorrow. I have almost 11 lbs of it and it does really well in my 7mm Rem Mag. Maybe it will do as well with the 270 WSM.

The prices that rl had been before they became unattainable in 23, 26 and 33 lead me down the vv line. I would've minded trying 23 and 26 as I do have a jug of 33. I do have a little od 15.5 and want to try 16. If you have some grand to try against HD and 23 I'd be interested in seeing the results.

I have always leaned towards the 140 gr bullets in the 270 caliber (Win, WSM and Wby) as I hunt mountain sheep and goats, moose, caribou, and elk with them as, well as deer, so I like the little bit extra mass and sectional density for that edge in penetration for the larger animals. I do like the performance of the 270 WSM as I think it a good balance of performance for flat shooting and retained energy for those shots that can get a little longer, or also be called upon for larger game. None of the animals taken to date with it have complained! 😁
And it's accurate! The Nosler 140 gr AccuBond ammo produces 0.565" groups @ 100 yards, and the 140 gr Trophy Bonded Tip will produce 0.396" groups. (LH Browning X Bolt All Weather with 23" factory barrel)
And it's fairly light, which makes for a nice stalking/mountain rifle. It weighs in at 8 lbs 1 oz with a full magazine in the scoped rifle. The scope is a Leupold VX III 4.5-14 x 40 B&C in Gunmetal Gray.

I have lost my old reloading sheet of the powders I used in my first 270 WSM, but the new list of powders that I have researched for this rifle show Re-25, 22 and 19 as top performers with the 140 gr Trophy Bonded Tip (which shoots best in my rifle with factory ammo). Top velocity of approx 3150 fps with Re-25.
Magnum and Hunter show good performance with the 140 gr Ballistic Tips (top velocity of approx 3200 fps with Magnum) and AccuBonds.
MagPro, Re-26 and 17 show good performance with the 136 gr Terminal Ascent bullet (top velocity of approx 3290 with MagPro) . (N560 shows up in the middle of the pack for the 136 gr TA bullet as well - approx 3230 fps.)

I just need to get to reloading with these to see which will perform best in my rifle. (I do have all of these components in stock, so the hardest part is already complete!)
