35 Whelen and 250gr Bullets

@preacher I also used a lot of XMR 2015 in the 35 Whelen with the 225 gr Ballistic Tip for 2700 fps. I think I was around 53 gr too. It is a good powder, a bunch of critters fell to that load. Well worth the try if you have some of that powder.
That was my first '06 case "Wildcat", so to speak and that 35 WAI case is almost cylinder! I had tried every powder in their #1 Load manual except H322 behind their old 200X, no results. Finally a light came on ) thinking 45-70 fast burners and why) I tried H322. Bingo, perfection, 2970fps! 58gr was their "Max" for a standard Whelan then. In my Ackley Improved, I got bookoo speed, had to be higher pressure, but brass was indestructible, lasted forever it seemed. Only reason I abandoned it was the fact I have a bad Left eye now, and don't even want to have anything happen to my good, right eye, ha! It also gave me "an excuse" to try other rounds, etc. :)

Bringing this back up again. Today I had back to back groups with the 250gr SP with W748 that I can live with. This rifle just has a hard time with that Hornady bullet.

I’m 50 bullets into this load. Some time back (it’s in this post) JD gave me some 250gr Speers. That was a piece of cake to make a good load. So I know it’ll shoot 250s.
